RE: lol but why Barnsley it is a back water!?

I'm marrying an American lass later this year, she's been over here and liked Barnsley. Liked the feel of the place, the size of the town, she thought it was quite big - ok she lives near Philly but got to realise when you get away from the major cities there, you don't get much in terms of large towns. She liked how accessible things were, being able to walk into town or to the supermarket, thought it was a good market etc.

nah I was on my best behaviour. Howie ran to celebrate right in front of where I was sat. Heart was going at a million miles an hour.

Ended up running into another supporter outside the ground. He'd been in Liverpool for a while and he took me out and about that night with his Everton-supporting mates. Top night.

i'm from Crofton in Wakefield. When i was at school the majority supported Leeds and the odd few Liverpool and Manchester United. There is a small following of Barnsley from Crofton and it's mostly down to my Dad. He started watching Barnsley in 1950's even though Leeds were the team to follow as it's West Yorkshire. But geographically Barnsley is nearer. My Dad has admitted he also went to the odd game at Huddersfield so he could see the likes of Manchester United and Liverpool, as they were in the 1st division then. Anyway my Dad took my brother to games and he took mates and they started going, they know take their young kids. He started taking me when i was about 8/9 but more regular, every home game from about 12.
Even though i'm from West Yorkshire Barnsley is my team and always will be. I totally despise Leeds, more than the de-dars!

Wakefield dont really count............they aint got a football team......Yorkshire Tykes

If yer from Wakefield especially the Hemsworth area it dont really count because this area in particular has a lot of connections with Barnsley

Would be great if all the football fans in Wakefield supported the Yorkshire Tykes........Barnsley FC

Born & bred Crofton - there was no choice about it.

Nearest team, started going with mi dad & grandad when I was about eight (first game '72, I think) There always used to be a strong support from Wakey - good bunch of lads from Agbrigg and a fair few from Horbury. We all used to travel together on the Specials - 446 bus to tarn, then jump on the train.
