Well according to Gary Lineker on MOTD who read out the relevant laws, it’s a sending off if dangerous or reckless. Or if there was intent. That was neither an accidental brush with a slow moving elbow. Mike Dean clearly is not competent to referee. I can understand refs getting it wrong when making a decision based on one viewing in real time. But when you have chance to see a replay and still get it wrong. Twice in 2 games you clearly aren’t up to the job. I hope it’s overturned on appeal but not sure it will be

The information fed to mick dean was that the player had a clendged fist.

Why is his elbow up there in the first place though?

Doesn’t look a natural position to me.

Not saying it’s a red card but he’s given the ref a decision to make

Anyone else noticed Mike Dean wears a number 1 on his shirt? Egomania personified!

Even Mitrovic went to the the ref to say it was accidental, (granted he went down looking like he needed the air ambulance) but the Mike Dean show was having none of it.

When incidents like this are reviewed after the event and some more “experts “ decide it was the wrong decision then the focus should then switch to the other player. If the West Ham player is deemed innocent then Mitrovich should be charged for inciting a sending off.

He often play acts like this to get decisions and there would have been no incident to investigate if he hadn’t gone down clutching his face as if he’d been poked in the eye with a sharp stick.

It’s downright cheating and I’m sick of seeing it. It’s at all levels of the game and will continue so long as these cheats escape punishment.

Maybe so but Mike Dean watched it with his own eyes numerous times and still came to the wrong conclusion

Hes trying to get his arm over Mitrovic’s arm so he isn’t being held ahead of the ball coming in. He’s 6ft plus and pretty gangly. Don’t think there was anything unnatural about his position or movement - there was definitely something unnatural about the competence of Dean and Mason though.

Away from the fingernail offsides that was the worst decision VAR have ever been involved in. Viewing figures for the Premier League will drop like a stone when lockdown is over.

Apart from the sending off last week when Bednarek was sent off by err Mike Dean for pulling out of a challenge and not making contact with a Manchester United striker
When it was clear to everyone else watching the same footage it was not a sending off. A fact confirmed on appeal

Twice in 2 games shows a level of incompetence far and above what would get anyone else fired or at least sent for retraining. And he is supposed to be one of our top reds.

I’m actually wondering if the PL doesn’t really want VAR and have deliberately set out to implement it so badly that they will be able to remove it and everyone will be happy to see it gone

Contrast with yesterday’s Rugby demolition of England. VAR only used once where the off field ref spotted an illegal trip and brought the reffs attention to it. It was clear to all (including the guilty player) when replayed why the ref was asked to take a second look. Who just shrugged his shoulders and trotted off for his punishment.

In Rugby I’ve also seen the off field ref ask the on field ref to look at a potential incident and if he isn’t convinced they just carry on. It seems in football if the guy miles away in front of a TV thinks he has seen something the on field ref thinks he has to act

I didn’t mention midweek because yesterday was far worse, in my opinion.
