By any definition of the term, we aren't as big a club as Leicester or Wednesday. Then again neither are Brighton
In 1997-8 we had a bigger average gate than Brighton, Cardiff, Hull and Swansea combined. That's massive.
Leicester haven't won the Division 1/Premier League championship or the FA Cup either, League Cup 3 times, think I'd rather win the FA Cup once than the League Cup 3 times though.
http://www.soccerstats.com/attendance.asp?league=england2 I'd suggest that these figures give them the potential, though...
Potential's there, definitely. Same goes for the Bristol clubs and Plymouth. But it's always been there. Always unfulfilled. I'm sticking to my belief that they're not a big club though. And, no bigger than Barnsley FC. Here's a graph showing the years spent in each tier of the Football League, which they only joined in 1920. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bright...diaviewer/File:Brightonleaguepos1921-2011.png Here's a look at their average gates during their 94 year history. http://www.european-football-statistics.co.uk/attnclub/bha.htm Here's a look at ours, just for a comparison like. http://www.european-football-statistics.co.uk/attnclub/bars.htm Population of Barnsley - 75,000. Population of Brighton - 275,000. That's just the town (us) and city (them). Not taking the borough's into account etc. Their nearest rivals are Crystal Palace apparently, some 40 miles away. We've Leeds, Sheffield Wednesday and United, Rotherham, Doncaster, S****horpe, Chesterfield, Hull, Grimsby, Notts County and Forest, all within that kind of distance. So all in all, Brighton are no bigger or better than we are historically. They've a hell of a lot more things going for them though. Just imagine every other Yorkshire club going tits up and ceasing to exist, except us. We'd be the only club in our area too. Nowt against COG sucking up to his latest employers, but Brighton are not a big club. Neither are Leicester City. I'll give him Sheffield Wednesday, but even then, they're on the lower scale of 'big' clubs. A bit like Newcastle, Derby or Wolves. Interesting stuff though.
Leicester are probably bigger than us, but over time they've little to show for it in terms of success. So yes, bigger, but not much. Of course Wednesday are though. But considering everything, you'd have thought COG might have chosen not to mention them like.
I don't care about COG chatting **** to suck up to his new employers. But I do care about BFC and it's 127 year history and achievements and I'll be ****** if I'm having folk pulling it down and saying the likes of Brighton are bigger/better. They're not.
Bit disappointed with that to be honest. He always seemed like he loved playing here, always gave 100%. No need for those comment though.
Who has said it, mate, and does their opinion (as that's all it is) really matter? For what it's worth, I believe we're bigger than Brighton, but so what? I don't care about them one way or another.
How do we know that they didnt leave out the part where he said he loved barnsley because it wasnt relevant to them at all but left the bit abiut wednesday in because it was a direct comparison to brighton and therefore was important in bigging them up? And its not like his love of wednesday is a shock to us. A giant picture of him at hillsbrough greets him everytime he opens his front door
I'm just tired of the negativity I think, pal. It's all over here and twitter. Whinge whinge whinge. We all know there are issues we need to sort out and we all know that things aren't ideal this summer, but for **** sake some folk need to chill art. Also, on COG, I clearly remember a thread last season laughing at suggestions that Forest had bid over £1m for him. Yet now, I've seen some of those same folk bairning about him going for less than that, six months on. Fickle.
Suppose that's true. Could have been edited and chopped out. Always think it would be better just to say 'I've played for some great clubs in the past and I'm looking forward to continuing that here' No way whatsoever are Brighton a big club though.
I can't see anything wrong in what he's said. I don't think he will have said anything intentionally to disrespect bfc. Cog always gave his all for us 100% so I'll remember him for that. We have to remember that players aren't fans like us and they are just earning a living like the rest of us to support their families. This is my opinion and I wish him good luck.
C'est la vie, old mate. Folk can say what they like on here (within site rules, obviously), or on Twitter. There's nothing to say I have to read it, or if I do, agree with what they say. Some folks' opinions I respect even if I don't agree with them, others I don't. The same will apply vice versa.
Brighton are no bigger or smaller club than us. At the moment the momentum is with them new stadium and all that 15 years ago it was with us. They are he type of team that we will have cycles with but they are a of of similar statue. 5 years ago they didn't have a ground. 10 years ago they were almost bankrupt 15 years ago both were true. Anyone who thinks they are a big club is just talking out of their beeeeehind. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD
You could look at it now though and say their business has grown (making them a bigger club now) regardless of history, they're a better prospect than us at the minute wether we like it or not... I hate the way football is all about money now and clubs like us trying to do it the right way don't get any reward.
Looking at things in the here and now is perhaps not the way to look at things though. I mean Swansea were beastly out of business 20 years ago. Who knows where they will be 20 years from now. Having spent a lot of time round Brighton for family reasons. It's not a particularly fervent place for football. They have even had to basically invent a rivalry against Palace to find a derby.
