I had just turned 9. Father had got a cheap TV from radio rentals but omitted to have enough half crowns to hand to keep the electric meter alive so we got the first half and a bit of the second when I came back from the beer off with more brass. All this happened at 7 Rock Street. The old Rock Street that went up and down rather than side to side.

 

9 at the time...watched the game at home in cudworth...when the game had finished i remember running outside expecting everybody to be outside celebrating and as excited as i was....total silence not a soul knocking about .....fast forward a lot of years and living in Portugal ....what a contrast ....saw it when .Benfica won the league...total jubilation....same atmosphere when they Portugal knocked us out of the Euros and reached the final everybody dancing in the street car horns blurting out til all hours ...i remember thinking back to 66 and thinking this is what cudworth should have been like

TBH that game should have been abandoned.

Terribly sorry for upsetting you Dubai. My post was all made in a tongue in cheek manner as the wee smiley faces at the end would signify. Most of the other posters seem to have read it in this way.

Playing with toys on Park Grove, totally oblivious. Only started perceiving football in the 1970 World Cup

 

1970 the 1st World Cup I can remember and possibly the best. Absolutely Brilliant.
Players such as Pele, Jarzinho, Carlos Alberto staring for Brazil. The final was the first game I saw in colour. My auntie had just bought a new colour telly so we all went round to watch the game. Brazil v Italy. Superb memories.
