I've just got them of the park and follies. Like this lovely old thing, sadly no more. Criminally, no more make that. Bloody council.

Bet you spent plenty of time at Hoyland Sports Centre then? My mum worked there as a swimming instructor, pool attendant, keep fit teacher, and vending machine repairer (kicking it usually worked).

Spent half my days there as a bairn. Is it still there? Not been in Hoyland for years.

    Nice one.

I knew they'd updated Kirk Balk, so thought perhaps they'd have pulled Sports Centre down. Thankfully not.

Not really, baths used to make eyes red raw. School used it a bit for 5 a side. It's still there but the school has all changed, they built a new one behind the sports centre and knocked the old one down. The footy pitches are on that side now. It looks okay, but I miss the old red brick buildings where me & Gary were.

When I do my annual trip to see Mum, God bless her, I'll come through that way, have a look.

Saying that, I might google map it now.

Real men didn't wear goggles ;)

The real reason his eyes were red was from crying after he looked in the mirror and saw what he looked like in trunks :p

My mum and brother live up Hoyland Mr C.
I used to play football for Hoyland Common Falcons on the footy pitches just down from Tow Law stand.
Can see Stand and St Peters church from my back garden in Monk Bretton.

My favourite bit of Hoyland. That's where they filmed the flying scenes in Kes, you can see Barrow pit in the background. There used to be a massive slag heap there it had a big pond on top caused by years of rain. Used to love it up there, quiet only wind. They cleared it 20 years back, took ages, then they built the new road. Glad you call it Law Stand not Lowe, which is wrong. I love St Peters church yard, sad though, nearly all kids in there. I made a drawing about this. Got me into trouble!

Nicky played for Kirk Balk and the Falcons. He was a couple of years behind me & Shenk. You must have been another Ronnie Hallam protege!! Falcons were great back then.
