Trouble is, you are not covered with a debit card, where as you are with a credit card.

Do you use a firewalled browser specifically for transactions?

If not, download something like Firefox and always use it when you do financial transactions instead of IE.

    It's scary isn't it

I had one with my credit card which the bank picked up - someone trying to use it on a gambling site. It was a card with a £10000 limit and I was no where near that so potentially could have been done for about 8-9 grand. Watch out because credit card companies tend to put up the limits without asking. When I got the new card I brought the limit down to £3000 and try to only use that card on the internet.

My suspicion was not with an internet site though - it happened about a week after I gave my details over the phone to pay a utility bill and I think that was the source

got call to say £600 taken from my account last night thru atm in Darton. Seems cash request says not processed but cash gets transfered to 3rd party. Numbers on that atm are fake too. Coop Bank informed but gotta go thru a mound of paperwork to get money back

    Oh no Ali.

    That is awful.
There seems to have been so many lately. I'm just doing what Omen suggested but Owl says there is so much Sh**e on my computer it would be easier to get a new hard drive!
You can tell we have his and hers!
Hope you get it sorted love. They got away with £9 from our joing account but tried for loads more including that £1800 one!
Yorkshire Bank were on the ball though.
Read through the tips I have been given above. I'm acting upon it now.
    Fake numbers - bloody hell!

Always cover your card numbers as you but them in an ATM

sounds silly, but some people are known to have put camara's on them so they see your card numbers as you put them in, but also then see your pin number. Covering half the card when you put them in and covering your input of PIN will bugger that up.

Only other thing that hasn't been mentioned, is employer/employee misconduct. Its so easy for an emplyee to take the details when they have served you and then pass them onto someone else. A few examples.

    1) cousin of mine went to petrol station in South Kirkby, they cloned his card whilst he was their, easy to do.
    2) A woman I worked with, was in an airport shop, they claimed their card machine wasn't working and used "next doors" machine. Same happened, cloned card

Tip with the above 2, NEVER let your card out of your sight when buying something (not even "under a counter")

Finally, you can even be done over the phone. For example, I manage a call centre system (as well as others), and all calls are recorded. In theory, I can listen to calls where payments have been taken. Bang, I have all details (name on card, card number, issue etc etc) including the 3 digit security code. Not that I ever would, but their are people out their that will.

Anyway, the point of my reply is, you may take all the steps necessary, but the above 3 examples are something you may never think about, or are even aware of.

In this instance, banks must to something to help, and not leave the onus on the Card holder

Hey guys, Cardiff fan here, I actually came on to ask you guys to go easy on us on Sat and don't go out for revenge :p

But I'm a bit concerned after reading this. I also had this happen to me; a payment for over £1000 came off my CC card on the 8th April. The only things I used it for were the FA Cup tickets and a hotel in london for the semi-final, which I paid for on the 6th.
