Remember some dee daa saying they're now playing more direct but it's definetly not long ball. Rubbish, that was more hoofball than 1980's Wimbledon.
Agree. I thought Bannan was absolutely class last night. Never realised how deep he played. Easily one of the best players I've ever seen at this level.
It wasn’t hoofball, come on. They’re a good side as are we. They were deliberately targeting the space between the wing backs & centre backs & got two goals from it. It’s an obvious tactic to use against a side who play a 3-5-2 but most sides at this level don’t have the quality of Bannan & the pace of their wing backs to capitalise on the gaps we left. And it’s not hoofball putting set pieces into the box either, it’s common sense. They weren’t just aimlessly punting long balls forwards.
There’s the usual amount of tripe mixed with fair comments. It would be a bloody good read if somehow ( please football Gods) they lost again on Sunday
I think we need to be careful with the hoofball jibe didn't we almost get to the prem under Val playing that way there's more than one way of playing the game we were clinical last night another decent side dispatched as Duff says onto the next.
The difference in our hoof ball was that it was to get the ball out away from our goal to play football in the opposition half. Theirs was from the halfway line to put our defence under pressure. Ours was defensive hoof ball to protect young inexperienced defenders. There’s was offensive hoof ball designed to cut out our press and put the ball on the head of Smith or into the channels for Gregory to chase. Speaking to a Wednesday mate, Bannan normally plays much further up the pitch and Byers played the role he did last night.
Teams like Barnsley though. https://www.owlstalk.co.uk/forums/t...e-last-night/?do=findComment&comment=10630352
That's how I saw it as well. I think Duff will be working on that with Thomas, Kitching, Cadden and Williams, as it was too easy for them to get in behind. Not helped by players switching off and not tracking the runs either. And while he got man of the match, I thought there were a couple of times that Mads tried to be too clever, the lead up to his booking being prime example. And for all the talk of Bannan, it wasn't him that played the ball through for their first goal.
It was effect live and got them two goals, as it stops us pressing them in the midfield. I enjoyed Val’s team doing it, and I’m sure the Wednesday fans aren’t upset with it while so ever it’s yielding results. Also in their defence Windass is injured who might have meant they had options to play another way.
By far their best player last night, but to be expected for what he earns. His best moment was probably without thinking too much he ran to the ball and in one smooth motion whipped a left footed cross in first time, straight on to the head of his team mate that Isted did his brilliant save from.
No getting away from how good Bannan is at this level. Championship quality for me. Amount of graft he had to do at times though to get the ball, was crackers. Teammates seem to rely on him too much. The lad on RAO I think gave a nice description of em last night - Wycombe with Bannan.
Yea and Byers...who was a big miss last night....they are still a bit direct with their first eleven out. Good luck to them.
It was from a cross (corner?) in front of the away end, one of our players looked as though he tried to chest it... misjudged it and took it on the arm, definite pen if the ref had seen it.
