its 2021 only time you got to worry about a sentence is if your staring at a window with bars on it and your room mate introduces himself as Ben Dover
lol, the worst kind of person, save up something someone says as a joke and throw it back in their face, keep getting your English O level certificate out and ironing it
to be fair you might have to factor an extra months spoon chiselling to escape in that hole behind your poster
True but if we were to stabilise mid Championship standard for a few years playing this style I think it would wear thin pretty quickly.
Top post. There is more than a wee bit of hypocrisy on the forum at times in all the glee about the results. I had the misfortune of watching football in the 70s and 80s and long ball football almost killed the game for me. The big difference being Barnsley players are not donkeys. Some excellent footballers amongst them.
No one will want to play us right now. The progress under Big Val has been phenomenal. It’s weird. Everyone knows how we play, yet no one seems to be able to deal with it. Must say I’m surprised at that. The high line we play is insane really. Anything that’s played in behind that line and we’re vulnerable, but no one seems to be able to do it. Genuinely weird to watch at times. So well drilled. Must be a nightmare for the other teams, knowing the ball is coming straight back and there’s immediately 7 8 9 red shirts in your face. Intensity and fitness is mental. I’m not even thinking about top 6. It’s just brilliant knowing that we’re gonna be competitive in every game.
We had/have a reputation of battling Barnsley. I don’t think it’s ever been more appropriate than now. Each and every one give their all. And that’s a pleasure to watch in anyone’s world. It’s not Hoof ball. It’s what it says on the tin, High press and then some. It’s not Hunter or Wilson football, but we know we have the players that can play that attractive type of game, but not get the results.
I know a few years ago, when German Football was on terrestrial tv, they talked about Bayern Munich and their high defensive line. It described that they could/would do it because of Manuel Nauer. His skillset as a goalkeeper included the ability to play as a sweeper/extra defender. Perhaps Valerian is starting to evolve our system to similar to that. I remember they played a high line, the wing backs got forward and created with the front 3,the midfield was compressed so little room and time for the opposition to play. Bayern play differently now. I like the pressing game but appreciate it's not to everyone's taste.
I agree with the sentiment about the long ball game, but as the QPR fans have said, it's not like the Pulis/Harris type of aimless football. We play both long ball and pretty passing football. We can mix it with the roughest if necessary, we replace the entire front line in one go, and the same intensity just carries on. VL can adapt to a different style of play as a game develops, the opposition haven't worked out how to combat these versatile tactics....but what pleases me the most is the absolute effort every single player puts in. In times past we've had criticism for players not getting their kit dirty, being a passenger, not looking bothered etc but now we have the equivalent of a pack of Terminators! This is the pre match talk Mark Warburton gave the QPR team (allegedly!) Listen. Understand. That Barnsley team is out there It can't be reasoned with It can't be bargained with It doesn't feel pity Or remorse Or fear And it absolutely will not stop Ever Until you are dead (Or they've won) There's a slim chance I made that last bit up
I thought we played some decent football last night, certainly not as direct as we can be. Only criticism I ever have is that we sometimes try to move it too quickly when there’s an option to slow it down a bit.
Good read and quite funny report...deserves a thread of its own https://www.fansnetwork.co.uk/footb...gers-run-ragged-by-rampant-tykes-–-report/#27
Thats a cracking report! Thanks for posting. There's a guy who clearly loves the way we play and is envious of the way we go about our business on and off the field.
Lengthy read. He gets it about right. Made me chuckle some of the responses. As if Mowatt is theirs to have at the end of the season.
