RE: so why did shepherd say that money will be made available if ritchie wants it?

he said that months ago at the time of signing kells and hayes. but thats not going to be limitless is it, and of course, funds for the right player, rather than just any old player.

So are you saying that Mr Shepherd decides who is the right player?

Seeing as none of us know the true picture - all this discussion is conjecture AM.

Some fans expect everything to be black and white with the club, when reality shows that there's nothing black and white about running a football club!!

The ONLY people who know the true situation are Gordon Shepherd and his Board, and presumably Patrick. However, it's becoming obvious from the messages and developments emanating from the club that the financial status ain't too rosey. You only have to look at things like Ritchie's comments, the painfully slow development of the online shop (which we all know can be put on-line a darn sight quicker than is happening), cutbacks that appear to be affecting the official web site and so on, to read between the lines and realise that.

Patrick Cryne isn't an eternal cash-cow for us, and if we have to suffer in the short-term at least long-term the club will be financially sound. To my mind that's the most important thing - surely none of us want to suffer the pain of Administration etc., ever again, do we? If the purse strings have to be tightened at present to achieve that, so be it.

Can't argue with owt you say there

But a bit more clarity from the powers that be wouldn't go amiss.

Who knows ? fans may be more willing to step forward and help if they are trusted with the full picture.

i dont think anybody minds us not having any money

what pisses people off is when one person at the club says its available and one says it isnt. things like that and as you say, taking 3 months to put together an online shop that should take no longer than a week for a three legged dog to do.

if they are so strapped for cash i would have thought opening the shop might help but not barnsley, its easier to drag their feet.

But that's what I mean about us expecting things to be black and white.

When the statement was made that money was available for another signing - it may well have been at that point in time. Maybe that money has now been required elsewhere?? Maybe it's been allocated to satisfying the tribunal terms for Paul Hayes?

Like I said, none of us know the real answer to all that - but I personally don't think people at the club have lied by saying money was available. Presumably it was when the statement was made - clearly it isn't the case now!

Besides - coming back to the original item, who of us has seen Jamie Tandy play? Is he worth the club spending money on? Is he any better than we've already got?

RE: So are you saying that Mr Shepherd decides who is the right player?

he doesn't decide who the right player is...he would make money available to AR if a player who would be a significant signing came along e.g. alan lee, liam chilvers...

however the other deadline day attempts were loan offers, i don't think anyone has lied about anything, just not updated the situation as it changes.

i mean this tandy is apparently a good player BUT not so brilliant that another club haven't snapped him up already. i'm sure he would be a useful player but not top priority right now.

    I think you are right.

Money probably is available to sign players to improve the squad but may be the thinking behind it is that we have signed Devaney, Howard is nearly ready, why do we need another left sided midfielder? We may as well save the money for when we need it. However, some of the negative gits on here like the sound of their own typing and think of conspiracy theories without knowing the facts. We dont know how much Tandy may have wanted, contract length etc and that may have dictated whether we offered anything. It is easy to be critical without knowing the facts.

I also think SM and David in Lincoln probably wanted us to lose on Tuesday so they could justify their negativity. Most people do tend to support the team, win, lose or draw as that is what being a footy fan is all about.
As for a take on the general situation, many people are calling for more defenders, it does sound as though AR wanted to bring one in before the deadline but there is no point just for the sake of it. Carbon and Reid are playing well and we have conceded in 4 of our 8 games. That means we have kept 4 clean sheets and equated over the season that would be 23. We have failed to score in one game only, equate this over the season and it would be about 6 games where we fail to score. I seriously believe with the addition of Howard and Kell to the ranks and with decent service to Hayes and A N Other we will be up there.

    Roll on Saturday.

You also need all the stock available and a full range. I would rather wait and have something that works than rush it just to satisfy a few impatient people and have you lot whinging that this is unfinished.

    RE: David in Lincoln

Maybe but credit where credit is due. 3-0 away from home is a good result in any league.

How were we going to pay Alan Lees big wages and Kilgallon?

More good PR for the club or is it?
