RE: David Hirst is the nearest we have come to having a Wayne Rooney on the books

He came onto the scene as a 16 / 17 year old and he frieghtend every defender who played against him

TARN fans couldn't beleive what they were seeing.........after 2 or 3 games everybody was tipping him for England....awesome player
He did something that I haven't seen other players do - he would pick the ball up and run directly at the opponents goal no matter where he was on the field. This caused panic in the defence. He also had a thunderbolt of a shot and all this from a very young kid

He went to Wendy (for next to nowt) and got injured just when Man U put a bid in for him at £5million.....top money in those days
He should have been Englands No 9 but he was injured for long periods and then he just seemed to drift out of the game
If Wallcott is worth £12 million at 16 / 17 Hirsty would be worth £20 million at the same age.

So yes, Hirsty has got to be in everybodies team that saw him play

    Hirsty............

The lad was a revelation back in 85/86. I think he averaged a goal every three games which isn't too bad for a debut season. Stocky buggar he certainly was. We sold him for about £250,000 and we certainly needed the cash back then, what with attendances being in the 3,500/4,500 range.

Methinks his drinking habits contributed to his lack of fitness etc in the latter part of his career (?).

For me, personally, i'd have Mick Butler - purely for the fact that he seemed to have a natural goalscorer's touch, an ability to bounce back from injury in rapid time, and finally because i'm bloody well biased as t'owld Mick was my first Tarn hero! :D

RE: Hirsty............still worshipped at Swilsboro after all these years

Probably more than anyother player they have had over the last 30+ years
Even that ginner Wendy fan who used to be on Corronation Street used to wear a Hirsty shirt

    That ginner off Corrie..........

Didn't he get arrested at Ipswich the other year? And didn't he also get bashed at Portsmouth? I blame those Courts adverts  Med him go daft. From what i know of Wednesday, they do seem to love Hirsty big time. Do you reckon he'd be favoured above Terry Curran? Mind you, come to think of it, t'owld Curran defected to the Blunts did he not?

RE: David Hirst is an interesting one

He was class but would probably have done better if he had left the area, and his mates, altogether. I was told that someone at the club, allegedly, made more out of the transfer than the club. Find that difficult to believe.

You never saw Glavin play or you could not possibly have him on the bench. Ronnie is, without any doubt, the best Barnsley player I've seen in 42 years as a supporter. Redfearn not fit to lace his boots. And as for Gordon Owen!!!!
