Yeh, I remember Fudgy well...... really nice lad.... but... used to get picked on a lot by the rough lads on the supporters buses. He was ALWAYS there at away games, generally on his own, but known to everybody. His misfortune was his voice.... like he had something wrong with his mouth, and seemed to talk via his nose, guaranteed to get folks taking the piss out of him. I used to get on ok with him. Hope he's allright and feeling well, cos it must be 30 years since I saw him. Mike Spinks will remember him I should imagine.
RE: Yeh, I remember Fudgy well...... really nice lad.... but... That voice, oncegot him into bother at Portsmouth, the local police arrested him for being drunk and disorderly ( thing is, he was as sober as a judge), he had to get a letter from his doctor, to prove that he spoke like that, all of the time. </p> That, I think, was one of the reasons he stopped going to games.</p> </p> </p>
RE: Yeh, I remember Fudgy well...... really nice lad.... but... Dave has a cleft palate, which causes his voice impediment.</p> He is in Wetherspoons in Wombwell several nights in the week.</p> Always comes over to say 'Hello'</p>
RE: Yeh, I remember Fudgy well...... really nice lad.... but... That's right, Tina, Ian (Fudge) has the same problem. I think their mother hadone as well, their sister, has it turned out, didn't.
Fudge on the road from Portsmouth.... On the way out of Portsmouth (78/79) he was laid in the aisle of the bus shouting to all-comers to throw their food at him. Several did, and he duly ate the lot! That day was a bit of an eye-opener - the Portsmouth fans were lunatics! Ahh! The memories -- we set off at Friday midnight for that one from the Social Club.
I somes get them mixed up. Some people i know call them big fdge and little fudge but i forget which is which when they are talking about them. Is Dave big fudge or little fudge
Ian is Fudge (never heard him called "Big" Fudge) and Dave is Little Fudge.</p> </p> Philtyke still has his Green Un's I believe</p> </p> </p>
Remember on the way home from Grimsby After losing 2-0 , FA Cup 2nd Round December 1977 . We were listening on a small transistor radio on the way home to a music programme ( no such thing as 606 in those days ) . All the latest releases were played and listeners would phone in to say which were their favourites . Fudge asked very politely if he could listen with us ( as I said in an earlier post , he was a very likeable lad ) , so we said yes . Punk rock was in it's heyday then and Fudge was really impressed with all those particular tracks being played . However , the people phoning in were giving all their votes to the disco songs . At the end of the programme , Fudge stated that whilst ever Jim Iley remained Barnsley manager , punk rock would never be fully appreciated by the masses !!! (seestars) I still haven't worked the connection out , nearly thirty years later !! Smashing lad , though .
