I find most want to be offended for other people. Who are you to tell people what to be offended by and what not.

I know a few people who have turned their lives around with religion and good on them. Each to their own what I find worrying is people who are intolerant of others beliefs like you come across. This causes division like we've seen for years.

Maybe if more people used the bible in todays society in modern England things would be abit different. Not many English people live by the morales you speak about.

And religion also heaps shame on some people due to their innate sexuality. It's not obliged to either - there's a load of properly nutty **** in the bible that now gets completely ignored because society/our understanding of the world has moved on to the point where it's just unsustainable.

The church could similarly move on and decide that homosexuality isn't a sin, so why doesn't it?

I'm very tolerant of religion actually. In fact I would argue for people's rights to believe whatever they like. I've been to weddings and funerals alike and sat respectfully through services.

However with that same freedom I will point out I think religion is man made fairytale and full of horrible examples of how to live life. This is hardly surprising given when it was written and how it s was used.

People who have turned their lives around I salute and if belief in God is the placebo they need to facilitate that then fair enough. Personally I would rather give them personal credit for the strength to live a better life. As opposed to turning it over to perceived omnipresent master of the universe who grants wishes and prayers if you pray in the right church in the right way.

On the values in modern England (Britain) I wouldn't be on such a downer about them.
There has never been a more open and accepting time in human history than right now. Can things Improve? Of course, immeasurably so. But that shouldn't detract from the incredible strides we have made.

I can't answer that and at no point did I say I thought homersexuilty is a sin, I'd hazard a guess that the majority of Catholics aren't homophobic. And I doubt many Muslims agree with how women and gays are treated in the uae.

They will eventually i think, but as the the Church concedes more ground to modern morality and Science, God becomes a ever receding force in peoples lives.
It's the God of the Gaps theory where we place God at the limit of our knowledge and morality, as they expand, the need for God reduces and this leads to a reduction in power for the Church. No institution that survives centuries does so by relinquishing power.

I would have no idea worldwide if you looked into the numbers and locations of Catholics. Same for Muslims I just wouldn't have grasp on the numbers and true beliefs against what people are prepared to admit.
However in both examples the teachings of the "holy books" and preaching of the religions for 100's upon 100's of years are clear to see.

I'll sign off for the night with a Tim Minchin song. This was written about the previous pope I believe. Good night everyone. God bless those who believe in such things.

On the values of modern Britain its ****** isn't it? We've got a massive drug problem, young lads pissed up and coked up in town centers scrapping every weekend, prisons over crowded, knife crime at a high, people getting robbed for their high end jewelry in the capital on a daily basis. But we look at other parts of the world on some sort of high ground. Maybe if people lived by some morales and values Britain would be alot better place.

People do have morals and values. Suggesting that the issues you mention are due to a decrease in religion is incredibly facile.

Morals aren't dependent on religion. In fact I'd say that if someone needs the threat of eternal damnation to get them to behave in a moral way then they're not a good/moral person.

Again at no point did I say it was directly due to a decrease in religion that modern day Britain is ******. Redstone said modern britain Isn't so bad I gave reasons to suggest otherwise and said we seem to look at other places on some high ground when we far from perfect. I said if people lived by values either religious or not then it probably wouldn't be as bad.

Fair enough, I don't think generally it's that bad compared to any other point in recent history. It's just more widely reported upon. People taking drugs and fighting for examples is certainly nothing new. Growing up the 90s I remember this being a common theme of Saturdays in town.
But if things are worse I'm willing to accept I'm wrong on that, I think it's a hard metric to measure.
What I am certain of is the morality of the bible would improve nothing.
A book who's central character is a racist, sexiest, genocidal God.

You don't think people stole, raped, mugged, murdered and got off their tits when religion was the defacto belief?

" Does the Pope sh*it in the woods ?. "

That's one of my all time favourite comedy tv quotes, can anybody tell me who (the character) said it, or what series it was on ?.
