The PFA must be a bunch of contortionists. They're managing to keep their head in the sand and their snouts in the trough, at the same time.
In this case though a multi millionaire stuck his head above the parapet and asked to get shot. Furlough was supposed to help your ‘regular’ person survive not to help pay prima Donna footballers
Nail on head! They may come out now and claim they had planned to do it all along. Its sickening to think staff are getting put on 80% pay by the clubs while they continue to pay these players millions.
Also really pisses me off when they make out such as Leeds players offering to defer payments, like that's a great offer, ''I'll just live on my millions while we are back and then wait for you to top me back up" not exactly a sacrifice is it?
Players getting some stick, and rightly so imo, but the billionaire owners shouldn't be let off the hook. Clubs like Spurs can afford to keep things afloat without resorting to public money.
It came as a surprise to me that, that parasite Taylor is still in charge, thought they had forced him out months ago?
I'd have a read at Gary linekers Twitter feed . Interesting read . He's donated 2 months wages to charity then goes on to defend high pay footballers . Why doesn't our Gary go on %80 pay up to a maximum of 2.5k ? There all the same these millionaires , the money must do something for their brain .
I’ve posted this is another thread, but I would imagine players are unable to be furloughed, legally if they are expected to keep up a training schedule and report that back to the clubs?
The more the focus is on greedy footballers and away from only 30 extra ventilators making their way into hospitals I start to feel uneasy. Footballers are the workers (albeit on hugely inflated wages) It is the company directors of billion pound industries rushing to get the furlough money. Look at Ashley and Levy. Shows what a decent bloke Daniel is though to give up 100% of his wage so others who earned less didn't have to. If it were me as a footballer , I would want the club owners to use their profits to pay the wages of other staff first but if the continuation of the club were at stake that's a different matter. But then if I earned that amount of money a large proportion would already be going to charities because I dont spend much money on material things. A car is a car, it doesn't have to be a Ferrari, a bag is a bag it doesn't gave to be Gucci.
Most of the footballers are from working class backgrounds & many already donate huge chunks of their salary to charities. For example Sadie Mane gives up the majority of his salary for his countryman. Rashford & other Man Utd players are making huge donations. I remember Solano of Newcastle used to finance his whole village in Peru with his wage. Most big name players have foundations. It’s ridiculous that they’re getting the blame for this when the clubs they play for are mainly ran by billionaires. Just look at the owners at Spurs & Newcastle & their wealth? Why are they asking for handouts? They should be paying the wages.
I agree. Let’s not forget that many of these players are young men in their late teens, early 20s. They’ve just received advice from their union to not accept any offers from their clubs. Many are quick to put the blame on the players, but they’re not at fault here for the majority of them. Perhaps the older players, the locker room leaders, should have acted sooner, but again, the PFA have categorically told players to reject everything. They are to blame here. All it needed was the PFA to agree something with players and it would be over. If it was up to me, players would be forfeiting 20% of any salaries over £70k and donating another 30% to charity. So all the players under 70k are not punished (young players, lower league etc) but all those on ridiculous amounts are
