    and gas???

Pretty sure my gas bill is a lot more now than it was 20 years ago

My fundamental problem with our energy policy though is that it doesnt make sense
There is no long term plan - we have many power stations coming to the end of their life and no replacements in build
but we are throwing money at stupid projects like wind power which isnt suitable for large scale power supply

To be fair although the Tory party started the rot it was 30 years ago. The incumbents since, both Tory labour and the muppets in now have not made any attempt to rectify the situation.

£100 to be given back to every customer for each year they have been with each supplier that they have been found guilty of price fixing in.

Huge sanctions on the arseholes at the gas companies, big windfalls for the cheated customers, economy kick started.

It would be nice but none of the political parties believe in public ownership for anything, despite the public (you know the people who supposedly matter) wanting it for railways and power distribution - this is neo-liberalism, treating the population like they are cows on a milking machine. They take it from us and feed it to the corporations.

We dont matter, and until we do it will be the same.

So why am I paying £100 per month for Gas and £90 per month for electric and 10 years ago it was nearly half, even after spending thousands to upgrade my system to a more efficient one. You also stated that no profits were made, correct, now I don't know your age so you may not know, but they were called public utilities, run for the benifit of the public, not parasitic share holders. The utilities were deemed to be too important for the country and its people to be in the hands of profiteers. Now it is the hands of foriegn profiteers, and you call that good. I'm sorry pal however you try to dress it up by quoting now and then base figures the majority on this board and the public in general know the truth and that is, that Gas, Electric and water cost more now, pro rata to income than they did pre privatisation, as a previous poster said '' fuel poverty, never heard of pre privatisation'' nuff said.

It is a lot, quite a big house about 18 rads 42 kw boiler, bought house for family reasons, aged relatives etc, too big for me an r gert now but thats a different story but that doesn't alter the fact that inspite of fitting a more efficient system my bills are nearly ( not quite ) double what they were 10 years ago when we moved in.

Yes, I know that, but that isn't the argument. Pre privatisation they were subsidised because they were public services run for the public and industry, for the good of the country. I would imagine there was waste, they were ran as regional entities and there must have been a lot of duplicated services, but once again, that doesn't alter the fact that they were run for the country at large and profit didn't come high on the list of priorities until Thatcher started her Friedman led experiment, then everything had to be measured by profit and not by it's importance to the country as a whole and while this doctrine rules, I fear for the future of this country and it's working classes.
