Watching the replay I can see why he’s sent him off. Stupid from Watters, puts the ref on the spot. However the ref was never sending him off until their whole team surrounded him and bullied him into doing it. He would have got the card out straightaway. The fact that he wanted a chat with the lino implies he wasn’t sure. Really weak refereeing in my book. But not surprised. In most other team sports only the captain can speak to the ref and that should be brought in ASAP. That Cambridge lot were a disgrace yesterday and their inevitable relegation will please me no end!
Yep. A Concussion protocol where anyone going down grabbing their head goes off for a 10 minute assessment would work a treat.
Don’t agree there. You could tell he was going to send him off purely by how many times he blew/how long he blew his whistle for. He clearly saw it.
Whilst accepting Watters was foolish and gave the ref a decision to make. No way do I see that (on several views on tv) as an Elbow in the most violent of interpretations. He led with his forearm. Probably too high. Else it would have just been a shove. But the opponent made a meal of the incident. In how long he stayed down. I hate that type of thing whether it be our opponents or us.
weird innit, how fans see different things. personally I think the complete opposite. I think it was a straight red everyday. every one sat round me said the same. not sure how you come to that conclusion about the ref. he blows straight away and walks towards the incident. he knows exactly who's done it and deals with everything around him, before dealing with the card. really good reffing. didn't make it about him at all, which so many refs do. checked with the linesman, fine. that's what they're there for. checked on the player, dealt with everyone else, checked in with the lino, then sent him off. very calm reffing for me. also not sure what you're seeing in the Cambridge players, to brand them 'a disgrace'. they're there to win a match. they're fighting for their lives. can't say I noticed anything personally. if we're talking about 'gamesmanship', away from home we're becoming one of the worst for it.
But less than 5 minutes later a cambridge player did the same to a Barnsley player in front of the linesman on the west stand and nothing was done .perhaps because Barnsley player got up and got on with it
I've never heard of it being a rule, but in any case, no point in having a rule if it's not enforced. Maybe they could have a sin-bin of 10 minutes for any player other than the captains confronts the referee?
He led with the arm the player doesn't have to suffer serious injury for it to be a red card he made the most of it no doubt but it one of ours had been on the receiving end I would have wanted them to the same.
I think a 10 minute sin bin would be a good idea anyway say for 2 yellows that weren't given for anything malicious
Should just explain FOOTball, you know, where you use your feet. Not like Aussue rules or American football where the ball is in the hands most of the time.
Well, they seem to have a new rule in the Premier league where the 3rd person to approach thr referee is cautioned. Wolves and Man City players victims of it this weekend. So does it not apply In the EFL?
Like I say, I've never heard owt about it but it certainly sounds like a step in the right direction and should be applied in the EFL.
100 % pilock deserved to walk. Disappointed but the ref in my opinion had a really good game and didn't get much wrong.
The tv view was not half as bad as what we saw in the east stand - definite red. Although I thought it was to the throat
I was a distance away but I’d strongly contest that it was the ‘same’ - nowhere like as bad. Akin to the the Norwood one if anything, which I thought was a harsh foul and not a yellow card.
