And it is still punishable by death in some Islamic countries. (Rotherham Tyke take note: this is real oppression).
Glad society has you around to inform us what is and what isn't oppression. I haven't made a comparison to any other example of it, past or current, and never would. You wish to limit people's choices on something that would have no bearing on you and your life - oppression.
The love two men or two women have for each other is no different to the love between a man and a woman. If we believe in equality then gay couples should be able to get married. And I can think of no reason why they shouldn't get married in a church. What right does any one have to say theu shouldn't.
Re: well here is the bible, Leviticus 18 Look at the full quote and you will see it starts ..."And the Lord spoke to Moses, saying, “Speak to the people of Israel" Didn't mention anything about the children of England, Scotland, Wales etc. But if you are really going to say you must adhere to this rule on gays then you must adhere to all the rules - so no prawns, no shellfish, no black pudding, women on their period to be segregated, full body bathing for men every time they have an emission of semen, no pork of course, (you can eat locusts) and most of all, you will not hate your brother in your heart. It's all made up of course, but if you are going to use it for furthering your own ideals, then at least be prepared for the reality.
Re: so why is there such an issue Says you, but I disagree, so that's 1 all. They had a similar vote in the Houses of Parliament with our elected representatives and the vote was won in the favour of gay marriage. Case closed.
Re: well here is the bible, Leviticus 18 "28 If a man happens to meet a virgin who is not pledged to be married and rapes her and they are discovered, 29 he shall pay her father fifty shekels of silver. He must marry the young woman, for he has violated her. He can never divorce her as long as he lives."
Re: well here is the bible, Leviticus 18 Deuteronomy 22:28-29 ESV "If a man meets a virgin who is not betrothed, and seizes her and lies with her, and they are found, then the man who lay with her shall give to the father of the young woman fifty shekels of silver, and she shall be his wife, because he has violated her. He may not divorce her all his days.
Re: well here is the bible, Leviticus 18 And therein lies the problem in organised religion. Anyone can interpret and manipulate the text to their own ends. Click on the different versions of the bible and see how this one passage alone varies. http://mobile.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Deuteronomy 22&version=NET
What is an un-organised religion? That might be the one for me. I would excel, I'd be canonised or something. The patron saint of leaving everything until the last minute. I'd have my own day - better make that two days to be safe.
