Was the signing of Kelly ever really on the cards I wonder? How old is he, does he fit the profile? The thing is, I imagine that the ethos was made clear when he came in and it hasn't changed since. As I've said before, there are two distinct but interlinked issues; 1) the approach taken by the board which whilst not intrinsically wrong, is naive at best when we will no longer consider older more experienced players. It seems like we got burnt by Lita and Treacy and have gone right the other way. 2) the tactics in use by the manager. We are as dull as ditch water with a side that is easy to beat. LJ faces a stark choice; either make us harder to beat even if that means being even more boring or throw caution to the wind and take the restrictions off on say midfielders breaking forward. Tough days ahead. If they stick with the plan now, fair enough, but as it stands we look like relegation fodder and I don't have a great deal of faith that either party will change approach...
Depends how good said kids are. And the team that that was about had some experienced players in it didn't it?
This. At the end of the day you aren't going to successfully nurture young players unless they have experience and character around them. Whether that's to guide them on the pitch or act as role models off it. It necessitates that those older people are very carefully recruited to be the role models mind.
Look, the management team have proven themselves incompetent, I think we all agree on that, wrong people in the critical positions. But who will fire them? Coz it looks like they hire and fire themselves to me. So why wouldn't they stay on the gravy train as long as possible? After all no one will surely hire them after this debarcle.
So what is the point of playing him on the wing ? I mean that the main objective of playing a winger is to get the ball wide to him , he can then take on the fullback and cross the ball to the strikers etc. Now if he is ***** at crossing the ball, it makes zero sense in him playing at all !
All I can say in his defence is that I can't remember many better players with the ball at their feet. He drives at full backs and beats them for fun. He just has no final delivery. But then again we've had plenty of wingers in the past who could neither cross the ball nor beat a man, so he's a 50% improvement on them!
Most of his crosses seem to go into the ballacks of said full backs so I wouldn't really say he's beating them.
I wouldnt have played them either, but really 50% of being better than nothing is still nothing! Maybe we need to tell him to forget trying to cross the ball and just kick it to the keeper, that way we might be lucky and when he buggers that up it may go in the goal, because I cannot see how he is ever going to get it right during his loan here. We surely have lads in the U21`s that cant cross it either and using them we would at least be giving them some experience?
To be fair to them, they're right. I like him a lot. He appears to be a really good bloke. Jury is certainly out on his managerial abilities like, and as you say, that's a bit more important.
