I’m fully expecting Connell and Phillips to depart in the summer. They’re standout performers who’ll be held in high regard by many League One competitors and teams in the Championship.

Not having a coach hasn't stopped us signing players before.

The thoughts of those two leaving is giving me the shivers. Already probably losing three outstanding League 1 players and a very good one in Cadden. Losing Phillips and Connell would potentially absolutely destroy us. One thing I will say is I don’t think either of them are good enough for the Champ. I’m not sure they’ll be loads of interest. Connell has the potential so someone might see him as an investment but he’s been shocking this season.

Shocking? Gi or. Hes had a couple of bad games but no where near shocking. Natural talent hes head and shoulders above anyone else in our squad so it would be a huge miss.

Byers is dee dah to the core, if we signed him and he didn't hit the ground running I can imagine the abuse he'd get!

Generally if other clubs are interested that rules us out straight away.

I thought the transfer deals from last summer were done in instalments (probably like most deals these days) so surely we have a decent amount coming in still for Kitching, Mads and maybe even Collins? Unless of course those deals are 50p a year for 200 years.

I know we always have to sell players but I’d be annoyed if both Phillips and Connell left this summer. It’s already a big enough rebuild without adding 2 extras on to it.

    Cash flow / P& L issue though.

Whilst the above is true it doesn’t detract from the fact that we suffer an operating loss of I think circa £3m

That’s true but I’d hope with the afore mentioned instalments and (I’m guessing) quite a few of or bigger earners departing to reduce the wage bill, we won’t need to sell both. I guess we will see what happens.

We need to be in the division above for that extra income stability and selling those 2 would put us quite a lot further away from that in my opinion.

Totally agree mate on the last point. I guess it’s the harsh reality of being a loss making business

True. But when there are other clubs interested, why would a player sign for a team when they don't know who is going to be in charge etc. basically rules us out straight away

If we sell both of those there's not a prayer we'll near the top 6. We could afford to lose Connell maybe out of the two, but not Phillips.
Be almost impossible to replace his goals and assists.

I'd like to think it's not 3m these days.

We arguably probably lost our top earners last year. And this year aside the 2 mentioned, the other top earners are out of contract.

Given we recruited well down the ladder, and also got rid of the Belgian wages, if be absolutely mortified if we were still 3m short. Just what are we spaffing money on.

Anyway, where's 3m come from. Our accountants on here were saying 5/6m if I recall.

You genuinely believe no other clubs wanted Phillips, Connell, Okeeffe, Cadden etc? Especially the ones on a free, after having great season? Or you just levelling yet another baseless claim at the club? Didn't the club manage to keep McAtee happy despite clubs in championship being after him?

On twitter it says Sunderland and Cardiff have registered an interest in Phillips..
To whom and what that actually means in reality ..I'm not sure

The difference is Byers is an established League 1 player, with plenty of experience. The other names you mentioned weren’t at the time, except maybe O’Keefe who played in the worst defence the season prior. I’ve no doubt other clubs were interested those players, but clubs lower down the pyramid than us.

Huddersfield will offer more money than us, it’s as simple as that.

Is it extra income stability? I guess only if we don't spend any of the extra cash. Which would lead to immediate melt down on here, twitter etc.
The last few seasons we've been in the Championship we've been operating with one of the three or four lowest budgets in the league.
Going up isn't a sudden promised land of milk and honey.
