Got a lot of stick from the moaners sat near me at Blackpool. In fact he always seems to get stick from what I here at away games, complaining that he doesn't get forward enough and always stops and plays back or sideways. I like him and I'd think hes only following instructions, people seem to forget hes just a young lad learning.
I like him, think he's a decent prospect. He'll probably not make us money like other youngsters we've brought through, he might actually be one who's good enough for us and stays with us for years. Those giving him stick (and I've heard it plenty at games, particularly away) are morons, he's barely out of nappies in football terms.
The lad has no confidence to go forward with the ball that's clear to see with him going sideways or backwards all the time, personally I don't think his ready for 1st team football with us yet but with Johnson not getting a proper left back in his got to be involved. Defensively yesterday he was ok, he does switch off a lot but that will come with experience, but going forward he offers very little down our left unlike wabara on the right does. In time he may prove to be a decent full back but at the minute he's struggling with confidence in my opinion.
I've not read much flack towards him. I think he's a good player who's going to turn out to be a cracking full back. My opinion of him (for which I got stick for when I mentioned this in pre-season) is that he isn't an attacking full back, and it detracts from his overall decent defensive game when we play without wingers and encouraging our full backs to get forward. This isn't Nyatanga's style either and I think if we're going to play that sort of formation, we need another Reece Wabara type playing on the opposite wing. If we played a formation which had a flat back 4, or wingers, I'd have Smith as my left full back every day of the week. Sent from my SM-G900F using Tapatalk
He`s a lad who ought to have had another haif a dozen league games under his belt this season. He`s steadyaway and he aint Tom Kennedy, he`ll do for me so far.
