It's a huge difference. Those 2 mentioned were only training part time. They had huge scope for improvement. George has been training with professionals and had a sports science team who are the best in the football league behind him. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
A one year contract doesn't sound very secure to me. Why would a league 2 side not give him that if he's good enough? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
The troll returns from under the bridge. Sad to see someone gloating about losing one of our own. Particularly one who was offered a contract with us anyway...
George Williams started his career at MK Dons, before moving onto Worcester City. http://www.mkdons.com/news/article/...mk-dons-transfer-mk-dons-signing-3159874.aspx Marc Roberts failed a trial with Barnsley, through injury, before fixing himself up at Wakefield. Personally, I DO believe he has the natural ability to make it back to League One. Opinions, eh?
Yes I know he did but he wasn't a league footballer. Everyone knows how hard it is to get back out once you've fallen. I'm not stating anything new here. The reason he's fallen in the first place is because he isn't good enough. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Williams was an MK Dons academy product, released four years ago. He took a step down/back into non-league and now finds himself back at L1 level with the club and manager who released him. Roberts was going to be given a contract at BFC but for an injury. He too then went down the pyramid and worked his way back up. As have countless other footballers since football began. As I said in reply to your questions in this thread from November, I found him steady and for a 19 year old lad in his first year at first team level quite consistent. I didn't see anything in him to wow me, he reminded me of Chris Barker to be honest and I would have tipped him to have a similar career. Good luck to George at Gateshead. And congratulations to you on being correct. You must be delighted, otherwise you wouldn't have bumped this. Takes a special person. Good job I'm busy today otherwise I'd be going through your posts and bumping all the times you've been wrong. For balance, like. I will though, on a serious note be bumping a thread in a few weeks time, one in which you made a few choice remarks about another footballer. Exciting innit?
If he can get a fair whack of money whilst playing football week in week out, I think it's a decent option for him. When the year is up, he can sit back and assess what he wants to do, which could all depend on what league Gateshead are in. In fact I think that's a sensible decision for a 19 year old.
And I'm offering a different viewpoint to someone who is gloating over a young Barnsley player, initially offered a new contract this Summer by the club, who has now signed for Gateshead.
He didn't struggle in league 2. He went on loan there & was excellent for Crawley. A lot of moves aren't based on ability. Lalkovic has just dropped to league 2 from league 1, we all know he can compete at league one level. Carl Dickinson's also just dropped from league 1 to 2 when he could've stayed in 1. Money, location & first team guarantees all play a big part in deciding where you play
He played well in his first game for Crawley. He was poor to average after that. He was also poor against York and appalling against Altrincham. End of the day you don't drop into non league for no reason. You've either got a poor attitude and don't want it or you're simply not good enough. At the minute Smith isn't good enough. Hopefully he'll bounce back up. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
No it's not one or the other. There's lots of reasons why a player could drop into non-league as I've stated above
He was offered a contract in league football. In fact one by us and more than one from League 2 teams
