Good luck to him. I think that over the past couple of years the attitude towards him on here has been unfair, bordering on nasty. It obviously didn't work out, but hopefully he's got something out of his time at the club.
It's been very hard to shift players on in the last 18 months. Most teams in the lower leagues hadn't the money to purchase or pay his wages. We would be very lucky to see any return on what we've invested. I too was pleased with his performance at Bolton. But that was as wing back. Be interesting to see where he fits in at Walsall. He said he was looking forward to scoring goals. Good luck to him.
how could we sell him then when he hadn't even played or trained with us. It was an odd signing remember where he'd stayed on loan at Bradford instead of joining us in league 1.
I think sometimes when fans voice an opinion about players not being good enough at the end of the day it's only a spectators opinion of what they observe. It's not always having a go at players. And is nothing personal, towd lad Cauley as had a bit o that even though he's reached 50 goals. It was certainly a strange signing in my opinion and as clearly not worked out. Don't forget he's picked a decent wage up .
I get that, but he's a young lad who's barely played a game and I bet him or his family and friends check out the board from time to time. I run a really small hospitality business and can remember every bad review I've ever received. I think maybe people don't realise how much opinions on the internet affect people. He's not exactly CR7, who can afford to leave it to his staff - this stuff will 100% get back to him.
Yeagh I get what you say ,he is only young and probably a lot of the abuse is tough when your at this age . That is the problem with social media.
Football is a performance industry and as such you get public reviews. He'll also be on a lot more money than most lads his age. Part and parcel of being a footballer is learning how to cope with criticism. I know a lot of actors/actresses/ comedians just don't read reviews
Good on George. It's a short career, if he's out of contract next year and not been given targets then I hope he cracks on and earns himself the best contract here or elsewhere he can.
I’ll give George credit - when he’s come on, he’s always put a shift in. I think it is a case of wrong place, wrong time. As YT said, if we’d remained in L1, he would have prospered more and kick-started his career. The lad needs games to develop and prove himself. Oxford will be a good place for him. I wish him well and hope he goes on to do well.
just think we should have made a decision when we went up. His stock was high after 2 good goalscoring loans at Bradford and Bury but can appreciate what you are saying.
I agree with you. its fine to make observations on performance but people should think twice before hitting the "send" button when they're posting personal offensive remarks. George has been the victim of some extreme abuse on here. Would these people actually say those things to his face? Doubt it somehow.
And therein lay the problem ........ Back in the 80's, me and thee sat in a pub after a game discussing the merits of player X is heard by me n thee and everyone sat at our table. Similar private converations happened in other pubs. These days, after a game, me n thee might discuss the merits of player X on here, or other social media, and every single word and discussion is suddenly witnessed by thousands with an outside chance of 'going viral'. Great for a player's confidence and standing if they are positive words; must be soul-destroying if those words are less than kind. That said, they are brought up to know this and am sure they are well looked after in how to deal with it all. My gut feeling is that George - being "a typical Northerner" would join this board and laugh at us for the fact he has done, even briefly, what most of us have only dreamed about.
