from what i hear the halftime entertainment is garbage. why not do a crossbar challenge with the prize a club shop voucher say 10 quid,if no one hits the prize rolls over. 3 people per game 1 shot each
Mmm, if only the club had, in it's employ, a buch of 20-25 well paid members of staff who only work a couple of hours per day... I'm sure a couple of players rolling up to schools, offering free child tickets providing they are accompanied by a full paying adult, would see more people through the turnstiles and more money in the coffers than a few of us handing flyers out to the old ladies and young scroats that are knocking about town during the day. And it appears that there are plenty of people drinking in town on a Saturday afternoon who would normally have gone to the match but are now content to stay in the pub and watch the scores roll in on the TV screens. What could be done to get them to the ground? Maybe trawling the pubs with money off vouchers at around 2-2.30pm? Anyway, if we stay up I have a good idea to try to increase season ticket sales next year. How about an offer whereby if the season ticket sales reach a certain level, eg 13,000, the club can pledge free season tickets to them all the following season if we make the Premiership. From the club's point of view it should increase season ticket sales and if the figure creeps close to the cut off it may push season ticket holders into trying to get their friends to sign up, whereas the fans get the chance to save a few hundred pounds the next season (if Flitcroft turns out to be e new Danny Wilson!). It's really a no lose for the club, as it should see an increase in revenue whilst in the Championship and if we did get promoted, which is unlikely let's face it, the £60m+ windfall will easily outweigh the cost of the free season tickets. Other offers they may want to consider is free home cup tie tickets if the season tickets reach a certain level or free coach transport to away cup ties if the season ticket sales reach a certain level (bearing in mind that we get a share of the gate receipts from away cup ties). Finally, maybe a £50 discount from your season ticket the following season if they reach a certain level. It's up to the club to decide what that level should be. They could even have a staggered benefit system, whereby if the sales reach 10,000 everyone gets a home cup tie ticket for a fiver, if they reach 12,000 everyone gets a free home cup tie ticket, etc, etc. just soething to encourage season ticket sales. Maybe other things like a draw (similar to the centenary society) of all season ticket holders each hoe match at half time, with the winner getting a signed shirt or something similar. Won't cost much, but again anything to increase the benefits of being a season ticket holder will help.
A meeting with don and Barry at a reasonable time this time, would be helpful. Apart from that, all the ideas need to be captured, understood, assessed and the unworkables ones filtered out before presentation to the club. Suggest you start with setting something up to capture the ideas first.
Yes I was thinking along similar lines. Perhaps a forum on here open to anyone who wants to get involved. We can use other online collaboration tools as neccesary to cordinate efforts.
http://v2.barnsleyfc.org.uk/showthread.php?182344-Time-t-ofill-up-the-ground-amp-back-the-boys This sort of sits with my earlier thread mate, I have emailed Don and Mark with my above idea's. I'm willing to give as much help as possible and I think I have bucket loads of enthusiasm & passion to help with this. I work as a non paid member of staff at Hull KR (rugby team) and am involved in match day entertainment. I have raised a lot of money off my own back to go towards fun involving junior fans in a very big way at match and non match-days. My help is here!!
Here you go Gally, the club can have this one free "TEAM TARN!" Use that on all promo stuff to entice people back down to the 'well.
What do the players do after training. Shouldn't underestimate the power of kids meeting players face to face. They should be going into the schools, meeting kids etc. I am from featherstone, why do I support Barnsley - Because when I was about 13 at high school Barnsley sometimes came to our school to use the astro turf which was best in area at the time. We watched them train a few times, never even got to meet the players but still got me following BFC. My daughter had to make a crown for the queens Jubilliee, She came home very exited because a Daryl Powell and a couple of fev players came into the school and judged the best crown competition, they did the same with Easter Bonnets etc. Doesn't cost nowt for the players to meet kids and they may just go home and tell their parents they want to go to a match
The club has to get the Barnsley schools involved. It hurts me to see young kids in Man Utd,Chelsea Arsenal and Liverpool replica kits walking around town. They are our future fans and need to be encouraged to come down to Oakwell.Pricing them out of coming to home matches will have a long term negative effect on our future attendances.
how about a chance for the out of towners of the ones who look after kids to have a skype session in the meeting. dont know if this is even possible but if it was it would not alienate people. Gorden ottenshaw some good points. how about if you buy a season ticket you get a free online code to player for the season. also think the club need to focus on getting the paying public back, season ticket sales are all good but its the people who pay on the gate we need to try to get back to the well. the people who work some but not all saturdays week days who pick and choose these people are choosing to stay home
What annoys me at the moment is the club potentially have hundreds of people who are willing to work for them on a voluntary basis in order to promote the club yet they do not seem to want any help. I have skills and experience in a number of areas that would be useful to the club and over the years I have contacted them a number of times with various suggestions (that would involve very little or no cost) and how I could help implement them. My emails have been acknowledged, but never have I received any kind of reply. I don't bother contacting them anymore as the current regime have obviously decided that they will dismiss any kind of assistance from one of the little people that sit in the stands.
if anyone wants to check this out http://screaming-eagles.com/ its one of the fan clubs of DC United my new team they run this very well.
i've done the same - several times - but i never even got as far as a reply. maybe the way forward is to contact The Don via local media, e.g. the Chron? we do have a lever right now, under the banner of 'fan realignment'. to be honest, it's probably more effective through a single point of contact. Maybe matt murray can be put to better use than running a survey on 'do you think flitcroft is the right man for the job'
Suggest you put a suggestion board up and then get together a few people with the necessary skills to assess the viability and costs of the ideas, before you float them past the Don.
they've got to start with the pricing and seeing as we are nearly halfway through january and there arnt that many games left i'd start by suggesting 15 quid for adults and a fiver for under 16's,we need all the support we can get. use those electric scoreboards that have sprung up all over town to warn about traffic congestion, thousands pass by these on a daily basis, get the message across on these, just dont wait till the day of the match.
