Land of my Fathers is an excellent anthem but Sospan Fach is a Nonsense poem - google for the English Lyrics.

Go to You Tube - 'Spine Tingling - Dafydd Iwan belts out Yma o Hyd before Wales v Austria.' It is very stirring and more emotional and passionate than Land of my Fathers. The guy who wrote it and who leads the singing was imprisoned with others for their battle to get the Welsh Language accepted as an official language.
In our Taff genes is a sense that our forefathers were oppressed and 'Yma o Hyd' is a song of defiance.
Also on a practical level the Lyrics of 'Yma o Hyd' are very repetitive and easy to learn - Land of my Fathers more difficult.
Listen to 'Yma o Hyd' you'll probably be surprised as to how powerful it is.

 

I didn't know they'd moved from the US to provide backing and permission to sing it by Gerry and the pacemakers .
