RE: At the end of the day...

Are you saying they join up to die? FFS that has to be the most ridiculous thing I've heard. you really do talk crap. You have clearly no idea about what its like to be in the army so suggest you put your brain into gear before you start talking crap.

RE: Of course no one joins to get killed. Can you imagine the advert?

We all have a choice Poet, I think you should show a touch more compassion for the troops that help you have your liberty. What do you do?

I show compassion; I have many friends out there.

However, what I don't agree with, is the fact that people are bemoaning the fact that they are out there.

It's the ARMED FORCES. It really is there job.

What do you people think the Army is for? Really? Do you think it's some kind of amusement park in the Sun? Filled with Ice cream and candy-floss and dancing bears with pink hats on? I assure you, it's not.

What I'm getting at was that some of these no marks need to appreciate the sacrifices that are being made, so they can play the keyboard warrior sat on their lazy arses.

Common sense tells you, you ain't gona give em a gun and stick them on the front line. Although there's probably a fair few that already have gun experience.

You, sir, are a hero in my eyes

Along with all members of the Armed Forces. There is no way I could ever be man enough to do your job. I do not possess the strength of body, mind or character and never have. The vast majority of people in this country are immensely proud of each and every one of you.
All I wish is that you all return home from the exceptionally dangerous tours of duty in such places as Irag & Afghanistan safe and sound to your families, a number of whom post on the BBS.
    God bless and God speed.

    A genuine question...

What do they all do when they are not involved in active duty?

RE: At the end of the day...

I know what its like!! I did 2 tours of Helmand and when I joined the army in 84 I knew I was there to do a job that the Queen, her heirs and successors and her government ordered me to. I did 2 tours there, both Gulf wars, NI 4 times, Bosnia and not once did i winge about it, even though a few times I REALLY thought I might die!! I signed up for a job and did 22 years doing it, So NO ONE SAY IM NOT RIGHT IN MY THINKING HERE BUT...

A policeman is expected to arrest someone, even if he may get hit.
A Paramedic may get hit etc treating folk.
A match steward gets verbal and physical abuse!!!

Her Majesties Forces go into war, that is why they are given the equipment needed!! ie, Helmet, Uniform, Flak jacket, Rifle, webbing, NBC kit. ALL Squaddies winge about kit being crap!! but at the end of the day, you adapt and overcome. all my Platoon (I was SGT in 1 PARA) wore Magnum boots, we realised they are black (like British Army Combat boots) but were better. We had our own Berghouse Bergan, cos yet again it ws OUR OWN choice. You take your own decissions in battles and thats how you get the job done!!!
