careerwise but I see the strain on everyone faces I work with. I spend 15 mins sobbing this morning cos I'm not sure i can cope with doing 3 peoples work anymore cos there has been a vacancy freeze to save money.

People think the NHS wastes money but in all honesty I dont see it. Not only nurses but admin clerical & management have been culled in fact 238 posts have been lost in the last 3 months without resorting to redundancy in my Trust. that doesnt count posts that can now be advertised not being able to recruit because they are seen as undervalued and 'risky'.

Oh and NHS pension right only apply to those already in the scheme not new starters

    tell me about it mate

i have had to pay around 20 thousand pounds in fees just to get to the stage of being a trainee solicitor.

im not complaining because it was my personal choice to go down that avenue but it is just frustrating when you see a proportion of the nation quite happy to sit back and take benefits.

One of main causes of waste is the goverment's obsession with targets and statistics. Whether it be in the police CPS or NHS. I am convinced it is one of the major problems. Think the NHSs problem appears to be mismanagment encoraged by the governements stat and target craze, over spending to meet targets has come back to bite!

And over value put on measureable outcomes

ever read Dr Fosters reports in the Times? makes intersting reading especially compared to 3* trusts according to the government. iId rather be treated where I'm less likely to die cos the wards are well staffed with skilled nurses than go somewhere that balances the budget, opens theatres at weekends without full back up staff to meet targets where the death rate per pt treated is 1/4 higher.

I better go lie down with a camomile tea now or I'll explode all over the bbs and that would be messy

yeah he set it up from scratch i believe.

he bought / was landlord at a pub called the Washington (that pulps former bassist also owned i think) , then that was the last I ever heard of him.

reckon he still must read the board though along with Roundsman et al

Thought there might have been more support!

And to answer what some people have said - I think it's a place to start with footballers because they and their vast salaries are such a high profile but I would advocate a campaign for everyone who can afford to donate a days salary.

I work in IT and earn more than an experienced nurse....their salaries are fecking disgraceful, the fact that they have peoples lives in their hands and the consequences of them making a mistake compared to what happens if I make a mistake at work.

The pay award announced today is an insult.

RE: there are plenty of jobs that earn less than 19k

and they dont get anything like the attention nurses get. I work in the media industry and to get upto 19k you need to have worked for at least two years if you start as a runner.
