worst defender i have ever seen darn't Well, he was shockingly poor. only defender i can think of that could rival him for the worst one we have had is Peter 'cant run' Handyside.
****, i forgot about Gary Monk and Carl Regan as well - they was piss poor at best, but not as bad as gibbs and handyside mind
I can't believe you forgot to mention Tommy Williams if you're talking about piss poor defenders. To be fair to Gibbs, you seem to be judging him as a professional footballer when he was obviously not one. He probably came off the M1 to fill up with petrol, got lost, ended up at Oakwell and was mistaken for a new signing or something. When you consider who signed him (Steve Parkin) it is quite likely. He probably saw him hoof the ball up in the air in training and thought, "Now THAT'S a footballer!!!,he's no Gary Jones, but still..."
I think you're being a bit harsh on Handyside. Agree about the others though - the only thing that Paul Gibbs was unfairly tagged as was "being a footballer".
yeh, i've hung my head in shame for that one. Williams is an aweful aweful player - thaz got me undecided who the worst was now though. . . . williams or gibbs . . . .williams or gibbs . . . .i just cant choose there equally as w@nk as each other
It is a tough choice, but I'd have to go for Gibbs. Some of his career "Highlights": Paul Gibbs spen 4 years at Carrow Road as a youngster playing in the same team as Daryl Sutch. However Paul did not make the grade and played local football. Whilst with Diss Town... He later joined Colchester United but was given a free transfer On 9th May 2000, Paul was given a free transfer by Plymouth Once Ijah Anderson recovered from injury in the summer of 2001, Paul expected to be released on a free transfer to cut the wage bill Paul signed a two year contract for Barnsley on a free transfer from Brentford. On October 16th 2003, Paul's contract with Barnsley was terminated He eventually joined Gravesend and Northfleet, where he played alongside Adrian Pennock. At the end of March 2004, Paul signed for Canvey Island he trialled for Weymouth at the beginning of July 2004. Despite competition from Aldershot, Paul signed a one year deal with Steve Claridge's South Coast outfit on 27th July 2004. At the end of January 2005, Paul returned to Norfolk, signing for Gorleston (From http://www.ex-canaries.co.uk/players/gibbs.htm) At the moment he's plying his trade in the dizzy heights of the Ridgeons League Premier division . Says it all really. Being offloaded on free transfers by 5 (FIVE) teams must be a record though. Gibbs has raised the bar for shitness to a level Tommy Williams can only dream about.
