no player wants to play for us. All would leave if they got the chance. We encourage this attitude but have to Manage it better.
I recall going back numerous coaches that the first sell to a possible recruit was to show past players who have gone on to bigger and better. Then show them how we could develop them to be better. Initially we went with low sale clauses so they could leave easily when a club triggered the minimum. We've evolved slightly, but agents and players know just what we are. I doubt they see us as a club they can stay at and challenge in any true fashion. It is likely to be thus going forward. However, if we bend meekly to nominal bids, we will forever get below market value and will never be able to progress. We are likely to make bad signings, we're likely to have some players run down contracts for the benefit of a big signing on fee and higher wages... but when we do sell a good player who is wanted, we have to get full market rate. Ask yourself how much Bristol City or Brentford would get for Cauley Woodrow, one of the leagues top scorers despite an inexperienced team pinned bottom of the league. Then see the chasm widen as we meekly take half or a third of that amount.
I spoke to former secretary Michael Spinks at Blackburn on Saturday. I can't post what his views are because they would destroy the swear filter. Suffice to say they are not far off from what you've posted.
I was explaining my point in a Boris sort of way I suppose! I do believe the squad is HUGE though, we could easily put 2 teams out, although we may a couple of kids on each bench. Even the people in charge are saying we need to trim the squad in January. Why bring them in in the first place then? FFS they're totally incompetent and results prove it.
It does feel like we have too many players. To make matters worse, I never look at our bench and think "he should be starting" or "he could change the game for us". It's quantity over quality. We have players who on arrival I thought would have been featuring regularly, but they've disappeared without trace. We need to not only freshen up the squad in Jan, but also clear out some of the non-runners.
It’s definitely 50000 but 19000 are existing NHS nurses which really makes 31000 but it’s definitely 50000 ...... and some on here slag Diane Abbott off
The plan is a "flash in the pan plan" it might work once but it’s not a sustainable plan. The board are as if they have a gambling addiction as though the next move will drop them the jackpot. "When the fun stops, stop"
Every contact has a 'cooling off period'... Might say **** it before the end of 30 days. Would anyone blame him if he did..
Just for balance, Mick Spinks tells me regularly that Cavare would be first name on his team sheet at centre forward. The emoji is for Mick if he is reading this
Here's my constructive proposal for January, made without a hint of panic. No panic at all: - 1) We're going to sell Woodrow and Mowatt anyway, so use the cash to buy an EXPERIENCED right back and two EXPERIENCED centre backs to partner Ben Williams on the left. Right back could be youngish, around 27/28 or so. Centre backs need to be around 30 or north of. 2) Play 442 with Cavaré on the right, 2 from Bähre/Dougall/McGeehan in the middle, Thomas on the left. 3) Stick Bambo up front with 1 from Brown/Schmidt. Tell Cavaré and Bambo to just batter people until they keel over and get taken off injured. Then take over the game and stick 3 or 4 goals away. Easy innit?
