Your right most of us had opinion on where we would finish very few thought top 2 a few more top 6. The general consensus if I remember right was 10th ish now it's looking about right there is meltdown. This squad is much weaker than the last two seasons and they couldn't do the job.
The answer after sacking an head coach, should never be to replace them with someone who's been part of the problem.
It’s so easy to work out why Clarke got the job in the 1st place. Threw everything into getting Duff back who then changed his mind & went to Huddersfield, the fiasco of waiting around for Stendel… They then couldn’t have another rejection so Clarke got it having been relegated and knowing that he wouldn’t say no. If you aim low there’s only 1 way you go….
Just out of interest as you want the manager out which team should he be picking & in what formation?
We don’t have the players to do it as DC doesn’t trust his wing-backs but we should’ve started out from scratch in the summer & gone 4-2-3-1. We have enough midfielders to play centrally, we needed some width in the summer but for the last 5/6 years this club has insisted on playing with wing-backs whether it be 3-5-2 or 3-4-3. Another shambles of a summer, how many times are we having to say it for it to stick?!
You could go; Kilip O’Keefe MDG Pines Earl Nwakali Connell Farrugia Philips DKD **NEW STRIKER -he doesn’t trust both wing-backs so play your best and Earl narrow on the left, you could play Connell & Nwakali together and we’re told Farrugia can play higher up in an inverted role.
My suggestion is to have alternative interests so the result of something largely beyond your control doesn't "ruin your weekend".
I completely agree with that. I called for us to use the summer & the amount of wages that were freed up to come away from a back 3 or at least sign players that gave us the option of alternating away from it. But that’s also why I defended Collins & have defended Clarke. Managers should have the options within a squad to be able to change systems without having De Gevigney or Earl at full back or a wing back that’s not good defensively playing in a back 4.
O’Keeffe’s biggest asset is his delivery. His weakness is his defending. I wouldn’t trust him if we had him spending far more time defending than he does currently. I’m not convinced about De Gevigney in the middle of a back 4. He seems perfectly suited to being the ball carrying centre back in a 3. With O’Keeffe wanting to bomb on you’re leaving him very vulnerable. Also don’t like Earl out wide, you might get away with it occasionally but it’s not a way I’d like us to set up regularly. I’ve not seen enough of Farrugia to judge. No issues with any of the other players in that team.
Not going to comment on your view of removing Clarke as that’s your opinion but I do have to ask if we did that what has CH done to think you think he warrants it and/or more importantly would improve things?
Not sure anyone can genuinely hold Cheltenham's relegation against him! Didn't he take over when they had about 1 point and 0 goals from 7-8 games?? He made them a hell of a lot better and more competitive and wasn't a million miles off keeping them up.
I think it as well Frog, we're in the top six right now because we've earned it. And its not just down to luck, as some would suggest. But whether we will stay there though, we'll have to wait and see.
If the wing back can’t be trusted to defend in a back 4 how does it work in a a back 5? We expect the extra centre half to come out of position every time and cover? Sounds like a sh!te tactic to me. Either he can’t play as a defender- wing back or full back or he can.
Yes, that's basically the reason why we play 3 because wing backs are often forward mate. Cover space
Yeah maybe, but the poster was talking about him having an impossible job, to try and keep Cheltenham up that season.
