It's all very well saying that next season in the Championship will be "full of good days". Yes, it's good to see the away end full and the other three sides a bit fuller than of late. BUT, it's not good to see that said full away end jumping up and down having just beaten us. I've seen it all in my fifty odd years following Barnsley. I can honestly say there have been some brilliant days and nights of league games at Second Division level, and a few more in the Premier League, and let's not forget some great cup occasions. But last Sunday was something else. We won at Wembley. We won a trophy. Call it what you like, but we did it, we have the cup and the players have the medals. None of us on here have ever seen that before. We may never seen it again in our lifetimes. So what is best? A Wembley win OR going up this season. On the basis that we can't have both, I would take the Wembley win. We can always go up next season. Who knows....
Winning the Johnstones ****ing Paint is almost already forgettable to me. Id put it alongside the pre season Emirates Cup for importance.
Winning last week guarenteed a trophy, yesterday guarenteed nothing. The look of sheer joy on my son's face last week was a memory that will stay with me forever. Wembley everytime
What a sour, mean-spirited attitude you have about almost everything to do with Barnsley Football Club. Perhaps you should start watching Doncaster Belles instead - cheer you up a bit maybe?
You didn't bother going to Wembley then? Oh, and by the way, I don't follow a pub side. I follow a professional, sometimes successful football league club.
People are OBSESSED by this JPT trophy or promotion thing. They aren't mutually exclusive.... Ask Bristol City. If we aren't in the Play Offs its not because we won a trophy its because of a hefty losing streak at the start of the season. Pointless speculation
I did. Wasnt too fussed about the game before and wasnt too bothered afterwards. Reminded me of a pre season friendly.
Yes, I agree, and even with that ridiculous losing streak we could and should have won at least a couple of those matches, thus planting us securely in the top six. Oakwell defeats to Port Vale, Shrewsbury and Crewe spring to mind. Nine points there and we would be challenging for the top two. Fine margins. For me, this season is already a success. We won A cup in front of nearly 60,000. Doesn't get a lot better than that. Promotion on top would be fantastic, but it's not something we should expect. Just hope for.
I see..... or rather, I don't. You're clearly "not fussed" about anything to do with the club. Your posts prove that. Anyone can criticise and complain when things are wrong, but you seem to do it all the time. I just don't get it. To say it was like a pre-season friendly is one of your best yet!
We are where we are. Don't buy into the ifs, buts or maybes. We'll finish where we deserve to finish. I'd settle for top 10 and a Wembley win after fearing relegation for first 4 month of season
Yes, so did I, and I have never bothered before. Just thought it might be worth a little delve into his latest pearls of wisdom, but you're right. It's not really worth bothering is it? There have been a handful of magical occasions watching Barnsley in my time and last Sunday was definitely up near the top of my list. I was one of the lucky ones at Tottenham when we beat Enfield in that cup replay. I'm not talking about just the result because, of course, it was "only Enfield" and why shouldn't we beat them? It was the whole occasion that lives in the memory. White Hart Lane was being redeveloped but the three sides in use were packed. I can still hear that high-pitched, screaming sort of sound reverberating from the top of the stands when Enfield were attacking. Obviously they had all the locals on their side as well. But this was no "Altrincham debacle". We won 3-0, relatively comfortably, but we had the likes of Ronnie Glavin in our team then. Over 35,000 for a cup replay between a non league side and a Third Division side - astonishing! I was also one of the lucky ones when we beat Man City in that League Cup game, with Trevor Aylott leaping like a salmon to score the winner. Over thirty thousand again - nights like that create a permanent memory, and definitely one to savour. There have been a few more so yes, I appreciate the good times when they come along. Beating a "big team" in the Premier League or beating Grimsby in front of 21,000 to get out of the Fourth Division - it's all the same to me. Winning at Wembley - that is something else
Believe me I do get excited and enjoy it when we actually have something to get excited about. I remember laughing at the Donny fans when they won it, laughing at the fact they were even in it. I havent changed my tune on my thoughts about the relevance of that competition just because we managed to win it.
Miserable git. When was the last time you saw Barnsley play a friendly in front of 60,000? It definitely wasn't played like a friendly otherwise you wouldn't have had so many players falling down with cramp at the end. This JPT has kicked started our season and is the main reason we're on the fringe of the play-offs. Hypothetical question same as the OP but If we'd gone out of the JPT in the first round, do you think we'd be higher up the league or lower?
