I've liked the post but it's not a liking matter. It's utterly unacceptable. Apparently lots of builders these days cut corners and use cheap materials. So much so that there has been a marked increase in people getting professional snaggers in. Builders are trying to maximise profits while keeping costs down (I've read anyway). My house was a new build 30 years ago. Thankfully no major issues.

We live in a house built in the mid 80’s, it was the last one in a cul-de-sac and used as a site office, when we moved in 20 years ago our neighbours told us of a story that they built a block of garages around our house and didn’t realise they had ‘trapped’ a skip in the back yard so they buried it.
We were dubious at the time but had the back garden landscaped a few years back and sure enough there were the remains.

Quite common practice unfortunately as you describe.
I used to work/ran a company that did work for all the major companies in Construction and some of the stories are truly shocking.

I dug a 40ft trailer tarpaulin out of the back garden at our last house. I was wondering why it didn’t drain very well!!

Don't think it's just them..more an overall standard of workmanship we now have in this country.. Went to look at a house in the North of York area a couple of years back.. Brand new estate 2 3 4 bed the builder was Persimmon.. spoke to a couple of people who had already bought and moved in.. both had listed over 400 faults with each house.. These were over 300k houses.. Thanked them for there honesty.. and didn't take the purchase any further..
