Thanks for the feedback it's difficult out here in selby to get your opinion across as we're in a Tory led town full of carrot crunchers. We came here in 87 so my dad could continue mining on the back of an apparent 25 years of coal at least promise. I've worked since I left school in various jobs but as you say there are a lot of people on the scrap heap that the regime of thatcher and co never had a second thought for at the time or looking into the future.

The men women and children who went through the strike in 84/85 are heroes in my eyes and if being proud of your community and wanting to keep your job was a bad thing to do according to some corners then I know where I'd rather be.....standing my ground and fighting for the right to a job and place to live that I can be proud of!

Selby was the jewel in the crown for the coal board,it turned a lot of coal, while I was as stillingfleet they did a million tonnes in just over 10 weeks from the Barnsley seam,I still cant grasp that the complex is shut.Which pit did your dad work at Selby?

North selby and whitemoor not sure if he spent time at any others. He said it wasn't the same in selby I don't know how you felt but I'm not sure if it wasn't the end of an era when he left north gawber and ended up out here. We come back for every home game and travel to between 15 to 20 away games a season which means he can still show his pride in his home town and put people right who dare to put it down. I have just started working with him in Sherburn and we have got the polish employees singing red army and were trying to get a few to oakwell to see tommy cywka but they don't like spending money so we will see.
