You are entitled to your own opinion just the same as anyone else on here but you have to be more careful how you word things. Not getting at you just a friendly word of advice

    Wrong.

It's used like that sometimes and by some people. It's also used by Pakistanis themselves and people who actually mix with them and know a bit about them.

    In the same way that....

.....'******' is used by black people?

That may be so, but I still feel that term and the term 'paki' have negative connotations and racist undertones so feel uncomfortable using them myself.

By the way this post inno way implies that you (Windy) use or have used these terms.

It isn't the same thing at all

Brit, Aussie and Kiwi are never used as a form of abuse, Paki can be.
Brit, Aussie and Kiwi refer specifically to people from those countries, where as in some cases Paki doesn't as I've highlighted earlier.
Brit, Aussie and Kiwi can be used to describe black/white/blonde/dark people (their race/appearance isn't important, it' where they're from that counts) where as Paki is used to describe people who look a certain way by some people.
If I was born in Pakistan I would never be called a Paki, but there are many people born in Britain who are called Pakis.
It's not the same and it's folly to pretend it is.

    Not really.

N****r was always derogatory. Paki is just a contraction like Aussi or Brit. Some peopleuse it as an insult because they believe that to be Pakistani is to be inferior. The Pakistanis haven't allowed them to hijack the word and still use it.

Don't use the word myself but I'm more concerned with the totallyduplicitousstance this board's site admin takes on racism. No wonder there's so much ballocks posted on the subject.

"Brit and Aussie are never used as a form of abuse."

That's just the kind of ballocks I'm talking about.

And they're contractions. Exactly the same thing. They're all used casually and they're all used in a derogatory fashion, we're just hyper-sensitive about Pakistanis on here. Everyone's fair game except blacks and Pakistanis.

Some people need to get out of Barnsley once in a while. I expect you to start quantifying now.

Brit and Aussie are not used in a derogatory fashion at all

Me, Ian Wright, Nasser Hussain - we're all Brits. I bet one of them also got called a Paki plenty of times in his life, despite the fact that he's from Indian/English heritage.

But the other contractions don't have the same associated level of abuse

For 5 years I lived in an area of Bradford where whites were very much in the minority. So much so that there was only me and my mate Matt on our street who were white. I got called a ******* white b.astard numerous times, but I was never called a ******* Brit. However, I've been out many times with my friend Harmesh (who is Indian) and he's been called a ******* Paki.

This is where we'll have to agree to disagree.

You believe the people who use the term in a derogatory fashion have enough upstairs to know they might be addressing an Indian. I don't.

    I don't think they care

It's just an all encompassing derogatory name for 'people who look like that'.

    Tell you what though....

...if we are crediting them with any intelligence then what better name to call an Indian? As a nation they've forgotten more about racism towards Pakistanis than the British will ever know.

I know where you're coming from Jay and, looking at it one way, I kind of agree. I guess I don't want dickheads dictating the meaning of a word in the same way that they've hijacked our flag.

I've just started watching The Bourne Identity and he's just punched somebody in the ballocks and thrown him down the stairs just for coming out of a room so I don't think you can complain about a bit of name-calling.

    While you're there Cazi.

    You're a lass aren't you? And consequently possessed of a reasonable nature. Can we have b a s t a r d back? It's ridiculous that we can say **** and not b a s t a r d. I could get along without **** but I can't talk properly without saying b a s t a r d. Just because City Tyke's gay doesn't mean we all have to be.
