    Why is it then, that when I was working in Oman, the Pakistani employees by ratio of 10:1 on the application form section on Nationality, wrote "Paki". Were they being racist to themselves? No. The offensiveness is just another of the creeping PC crap that is enveloping this country.

    Backs up what some people have said in this thread. My point is that the word can be used in 2 ways, one of which can be interpreted by some people as racist (as in the football chant court case). The word is also used to describe people who are not from Pakistan, unlike Brit, Aussie, Kiwi etc. It would be great if the word could be freely used in its literal meaning but whether we like it or not in some circumstances it comes across as offensive.

    I agree with you about the PC brigade though. Happy Christmas!

    Is the term "dee dar Barsteward" racist, after all we use is in a derogatory way to describe people from Sheffield, but EVERYBODY on here says it........

    Just a thought while everybody is being anti racist
