The England and Chelsea footballer Ashley Cole has apologised to police after he was arrested on suspicion of being drunk and disorderly early yesterday and fined. The 28-year-old husband of the Girls Aloud singer Cheryl Cole was held for allegedly swearing at officers after a night out in London with his team-mates.

The left-back, who earns a reported £80,000 a week, was detained when he refused to curb his language as he left a club in South Kensington at 2.15am. He was taken to a police station and given a fixed-penalty notice for being drunk and disorderly, the standard penalty for which is an £80 fine, before being released.

Just pointing out which paper I got the nightclub comment from

and that was The Independent, not The Sun.

To be fair mate you don't need to be The Daily Record to work the aftermatch of his arrest out, I could have wrote that story.

    We know one fact

He was arrested for being drunk and disorderly.

That speaks for itself without any speculation.

    And like I said . . . . . .

I'll go with what I read in The Independent.

As for me feeling the need to go with the sensational story, where did I do that?

    RE: Like I said....

Radio 5 Live reckoned he had been to a charity event, something to do with Armani. Then went for the meal. The usual sensationalism by the press it seems to me. If the press hadn't been there it wouldn't have happened, that is for sure. Arrested for swearing, I bet he was arrested for being Ashley Cole really. I don't particularly like him but can see what really happened without being there.

    Hmmm.

I think I've got a fairly good impression of what Mr Cole's like from everything I've read.

    No smoke without fire.

He's an unintelligent fool in my opinion, but everyone's entitled to their own.

    That's my point.

You have a preconceived dislike for him so you've decided what happened and it must be his fault. No smoke without fire etc.

I'm saying that but for the intervention of the scumbag press he'd probably have had his meal and gone home and my guess is that, rather than offer him some protection, the Metcoppers exacerbated the situation.

Like Ponty72 says -arrested for being Ashley Cole.

    No I'm not

I've every right to assume that if he was arrested for being drunk and disorderly that he was being.

'On suspicion' is just the phrase used when being arrested... I don't buy the 'police started it' theory. Why would they? It's cobblers.

I don't think you like the police

    It's not a pre-conceived idea without basis.

    People rarely change drastically.

I'm not saying every time he goes out he causes bother, but if he's been arrested for being drunk and disorderly, then that says it all.

As in my other post, I doubt the police would have made it worse. They might have wound him up more, because folk like him don't like the police, but that's his issue.

Bottom line - he's been arrested for being drunk and disorderly - I take that as he's been out of order and misbehaving. You take it as the police and press are to blame.

    I'll leave it at that.
