Depending on which bank you use your bank might not be any better than Apple....

You do not need to when creating an account enter just a username and password do not fill in bank details just press return and it will work. You will only then need to enter details if you buy a paid for app or music ( unless use gift card)

I'd always tell anyone who's never had an iPhone to try them but you're definitely not missing anything. Been Apple free for a few months now and can't see me buying anything else of theirs in the near future, they need to go back to innovating rather than just relying on the hype around them as their products do now feel a bit dated and even some of their most loyal customers are realising this.

Not sure if you need to give them card details to set the phone up, I had mine set up with them but they only take money when you buy something from the App Store or iTunes and you can't really buy anything by accident. What I noticed though is they don't charge you straight away, I bought the odd app and the money didn't usually come out of my account until 5-7 days later.

You can pay cash for gift cards if you do want any apps :)

Going for my iPhone today. I have an iPod touch and I get my apps via a top up card I registered when I got it. I am expecting the phone to work the same way.

I've had a iPhone 3GS a few years now, I recently got the iPhone 5 through work and if I'm been honest I prefer the 3GS.

Hard luck mate....... Android all the way. You have control with Android, you can download what you want not what they say, and more importantly, you arn't forced to use their software (such as Itunes)

Agree TT. Apple suck with the way they tie you down to only using their stuff. I never have and never will buy anything made by them.

    another apple android debate :).

I hate android phones, especially samsung. Absolutely awful. Always found samsung phones the most un user friendly devices ever. Iphone is 100x better :D

Having had a iPhone for years I'm always I'm always curious when I get told that Apple tie you in and make you pay for stuff, how do other androids differ, I'm not having a go or anything, it's a genuine question, I'm asking this because I can't remember the last time I paid for a app, tho I know you have to pay to download music,

You don't need to register a credit card to get an Apple ID and download free apps. Google will throw up loads of ways round. Like this for example.

With android devices you need a google account, which means you can download apps from Google Play. If all you ever do is download free apps you will never be asked for any credit card or bank information. That will only happen when you purchase an app that costs money or if you buy music etc.

You can do stuff to an android phone that means you don't even have to go through Google Play, you can downloand from other sites, but then we get in to technical stuff

I was always a bit dubious of that argument as well - but you realise straight away when you use an android phone/tablet.

Don't get me wrong there are opportunities to infringe on copyright with android but that's one example.
