Total now £265, raised in less than 2 hours. A true reflection of what Barnsley people are like. Well done to all, more to come I'm sure.
Hi guys, Really appreciate this, but not sure I can accept everyone’s help. Reading through my post again and reflecting there are things I could have worded better or included that I didn’t. The post was more intended to show the cruelty of this government. I didn’t intend to make any money off it. My kids spend most of their time with my mother because of my wife’s disability, who does a wonderful job with them. Talking about them going hungry was more a reflection of how it really would be for them if my family weren’t the saints that they are. My wife and I do regularly go hungry though. That happens. My family help us out when they can but they’re not made of money. I have gone 48 hours without eating this year. I ask my parents for help sometimes, but other times they either can’t or I don’t ask because I know it would leave them hard up. My wife’s immigration status is also indeed in tatters, and my kids do look to be losing her in the next year because of this election result. Her illness makes it hard enough for them already, we can’t do normal family things together. And finally, my kids will get a few bits for Christmas from family, but weren’t set to get anything from us as bailiffs did actually take our money. I was sent a very kind donation from a member this morning that will allow me to get my own presents for my kids. I don’t want to take anything on top of that as I feel it would be capitalising on an emotional post that could have been worded better and gave off the impression it was my kids more than myself and my wife that are going hungry, when in reality it’s mainly just us. Also feel a little embarrassed because I’ve been identified by a couple of people on here and I’m quite a private person, and don’t like to worry my family when things are dire. I’d be happy for this money to be returned or forwarded to the food bank at St George’s who have helped us this year and will continue to do so next year. I just feel a bit dirty taking it myself. I have a lot of PMs and will work through them. Thanks to everyone for the kindness you have shown though - it shows what this town’s really about. Alex
Would it be possible to have my original thread removed? I mention some sensitive things about my wife’s past in it and I keep getting identified. I should have kept a few more things private but the emotion of the moment got to me
do not feel 'Dirty' fella. Its what Yorkshire folk do. If you want to donate it to the food bank , thats fine by me . But take a little something out of it and treat yerself and your wife to summat special at Christmas. Best wishes Dragon Tyke......Baz
Gravy, wishing you and the family all the best mate. No one should have to deal with stuff like this ever, never mind at Christmas time
Alex. No one was forced to help out mate. I can appreciate where you are coming from but please take all the kind donations and treat your wife and kids this Christmas. I can never ever think how I would be in your situation. People are here to help. Have a good Christmas mate.
Scarthy flavoured 20 on its way and no more daft talk of not deserving it. Give the kids a crimbo and good luck & best wishes mate
Mate everyone has contributed willingly, and (as you probably know) it's the way we Barnsley people are. Please accept it as a gift to one of our own and his family, for Christmas. You deserve it!
Thanks all, I can't thank you enough. May I also ask that whoever has shared the story on Facebook please take it down? I'm extremely grateful but apparently my post made me far too identifiable and it's adding a little stress as I shouldn't have mentioned a couple of the things I did, they were quite private but I was high on emotion and didn't think through the potential ramifications. Thanks again to all, I've had a bit of my faith in humnaity restored this morning. You're all incredible people.
Gravy, if your kids are into Harry Potter my daughter has a part time job at the Harry Potter shop in the Shambles in York. She can get you 20% off if u want to make your cash go a little further. PM me pal if there’s anything my family can do to help and we’ll tee it up. If transport to York is an issue we’ll sort that no problem.
Incredible offer, thank you. They're both very young kids and not started with HP yet, but I'll have a chat with my other half about it
Money transferred, so sorry to hear of your situation , Gravy - hope it takes some of the pressure off and you can enjoy Christmas
Have donated. I know that's not why you posted it @Gravy Chips but hopefully you and the family can have a slightly better time of it.
