all those at the match looked and sounded fantastic on the tele, bit weird seeing home fans in the north stand though
thank you kind sir, i had to nip into the west green after the match and slake (?) my thirst with 5 pints
TBF I did, not many but I did hear some. was going to post straight away but I thought let's get on with it.
Yes I’ve now got a sore throat. Didn’t hear any boos for the knee they were saved for the Ref later. Great to be in a crowd lots of noise which considering the number of fans was great such a shame we didn’t score
Despite us losing I had a brilliant night. Fantastic to be back in Oakwell. I tried to sing as much as possible but my voice had pretty much gone by half time. For those that didn’t get there early there was loads of chanting pre-match. Both Jack Walton & Brad Collins came out separately before any other players to standing ovations pre-match & there was lots of chanting & then when the rest of the players came out & warmed up & did their drills between the Ponty end & East Stand there was a brilliant atmosphere for a good 10-15 minutes & then it just amplified when Val & the players came out before kick off. I didn’t hear any booing of the taking a knee, just lots near me giving it some ‘you reds’. I don’t think it even registered with most of us. We were just cheering & happy to be back watching our team in the flesh.
Aye. Start to second half was pulsating. So good to be back. Morris’ flick that hit the bar at the end was brilliant, gutted it didn’t drop in.
Yes, but he ignored our chants for a wave .... @YT needs to educate him on that one... he can’t be too cool for the give us a wave song.
i cant speak from singing and im totally drained from the experience today. not ashamed to admit it but when we came out to timerider i ruerd mi eyes out god ive missed it
Those in attendance were an absolute credit to the club tonight. Every person I spoke to afterwards couldn’t stop going on about it. Players, staff and particularly Big Val. He was so emotional about it. But everyone was gutted that the fans weren’t rewarded with a result. Or even a goal. The roof would have come off. I know it’s unrealistic, and we still lost, but I’d love that kind of loud, positive atmosphere all the time. From a personal POV, it was massively affecting. I’ve been to 62 games since we last had fans in. It’s awful to say it, but I’d got used to it. No fans. It had become normal. But hearing that first real roar of YOU REDS was priceless. That feeling of actual normality returning. My Swansea counterpart, a really nice guy he is, Chris, he looked so emotional post-match when discussing it with us. Even though it wasn’t Swansea fans, he said he still felt the power and the emotion of it. To finally hear a proper crowd. It’s been a tough 14 months in that respect. But hopefully that’s step one of us getting back to the norm. We’ve come a long bloody way as a club in that time. And we aren’t finished yet. It’s just half time. Thank you all for making it a terrific night and whatever happens at the weekend, I can’t wait to have 10,000+ back with us in August.
I can understand that. It goes unnoticed or unmentioned of how hard lockdown might have been on people who have been able to keep working - as if that means it's been ok. Nothing of the sort really. I thought the fans were superb. We deserved a goal rather than a result, but sadly it didn't come. Massively upset tonight even though it's only half time, but outside of the result I couldn't have asked for more from my experience of being back in town, back in the pubs, back with friends, and back at Oakwell. What a special, special place and club we have. Just for the record to add balance I didn't hear a single boo for taking the knee. Maybe it happened, maybe it didn't. I'm inclined to give our supporters the benefit of the doubt because everything to me was 'You Reds'.
It’s been a weird time. I spoke about it in the Norwich programme, as did my colleague. I was in a very dark place this time last year. This last 14 months has been a lot harder than the results on the pitch might suggest. But I’m here. We keep moving. And tonight felt like a pretty big step.
Can't wait to take up my seat. Watched on Sky at my brother's house tonight. Have to say the Sky media team were very positive about Barnsley. PR has been great in recent weeks.
Thanks for the insight, I could tell by Val's interview that the fans had shown their appreciation of the season, which is what I wanted.
? Please expand. If you mean morons. yes. If you mean booing. yes. If you mean was I there. Yes. If you mean did I witness it myself. Yes. If you mean anything else, I’ll be happy to oblige. Imho No cheering or clapping would have taken place. And there would have been silent respect. Others may see that differently from other sections of the ground where they didn’t hear booing. Booing kicked it off in our section at least. Then it snowballed. Either way, respect to all those who clapped and cheered. whatever their reason. I think there are enough responses to warrant my thoughts.
So did we , these idiots who boo are not welcome our club, what is there objective ? do they want to drive the Black players & coach out of our club & also make any Black player think twice about joining us ? If our players want to take the knee then we should respect that.
At least it didn't come across on the TV coverage, but I just can't believe it. That after 14 months away from a club they supposedly love and players they want to do well, the first thing they want to do is boo when our black players take a knee for about 5 seconds.
