it was special to be there. we were there for all those who couldn't attend. Great to here your comment about how all involved felt, including the swansea contingent. Val in particular seemed quite emotional about it. in a good way. Oakwell is a very special place for us all. so many happy memories. and we did the old girl proud. I had many messages from friends who support other clubs and they were all positive and complimentary about the atmosphere we created. we can do Swansea down there. nothing I'm it lady night other than the piece of quality which won the game. A thoroughly good night for football and we were right at the heart of it. you and everyone else at our club are a credit to our town. Once more...please pass on our thanks.
I heard no booing at all. the whole event was v well managed. quick mention to the young stewards also. a young group of Indian / Pakistani guys in the East stand. polite. engaging and v friendly. a pleasure to have around.
You are spot on, they are not thinking straight & showing respect even if you do not believe in the cause ,costs nothing . We were in the East stand top section & thankfully the majority of the fans drowned out the few morons & to be fair last the support & backing for the team was fantastic.
I thought the fans were unreal. I've personally never been at a game like it. I did hear some booing on the knee, but I think people did their best to drown it out with clapping. Players applauded on and off the pitch for warm-up, 4500 fans made it feel like 20000 during the game and from what I could see, hardly anyone left the ground until everyone had been clapped off the pitch at the end. So proud. Not ashamed to say I got pretty emotional when Rocky/Timerider kicked in. This Club has been part of my life for around 35 years. It's been a $hit year for so many people, for so many reasons. Being back was amazing, and it was immediately obvious just how important Barnsley Football Club is to a lot of people. To get to see that group of players for the first and only time at Oakwell, was special. It was a privilege to see Mowatt in possibly his last game at Oakwell, and I was pleased to be able to see DK in possibly his only game in front of fans at Oakwell (albeit a pretty poor one). The result was obviously disappointing and i'm not overly confident on the 2nd leg, but I'm not surprised. We're not the 3rd best team in the Championship. Swansea were the team I personally wanted to avoid in the semis, and last night was the reason why. If we don't get to Wembley, so be it. We will have been beaten by the better team. Particularly encouraged by Chien's interview yesterday, when he said "whatever the outcome, we will be stronger next season". So I'm expecting to see some strong additions to the squad. Either way, I'm an immensely proud Barnsley fan this morning and cannot wait to be back in August. Proud.
2 comments from me - I thought the fans and atmosphere were amazing as said earlier I didnt hear any booing for the knee -certainly around me it was all applause Gutted we didnt score I would have just loved to experience that feeling and the noise it would have generated
Read on Facebook last night that the atmosphere was awful and the reason being that the ballot was a mess and the real fans were the ones who were in the pubs - they should have had the tickets. I got a few messages from friends during the game who were impressed with the noise we were making - especially compared to the Bournemouth game
I was watching on Sky and it looked incredible. Yes, they panned to a mum that had a kid asleep at one point. It was a bloody late kick off & the kid was knackered. My Mum & Dad took me to England vs Scotland in 1969. A fairly lively encounter & I apparently slept through most of the second half & I that kicked off at 7:30.
Why days before the game did folk start talking abart booing at the taking of the knee or running on the pitch after the game of all the things to talk abart these 2 negatives are promoted on here.
