Kids surprise you. Took my grandson to a roses 20:20 at Headingley thinking the shorter game would keep him interested. He wasn’t bothered. Took him to the 4 day game at Chelmsford and he wanted to go back for all 4 days.
Lovely post Gally - my guess your daughter if asked in class tomorrow to write about what she did at the weekend she will write about her trip to Oakwell. I took my children when they were old enough and I think they liked telling their mates in school on the Monday about the match. slightly o/t - when my daughter was interviewed for a place at York University the interviewer was a Barnsley supporter and the interview consisted mainly of questions/comments about BFC - she was accepted!
I think you are right. She wore the Barnsley hoodie again today as well to go to swimming training with her friends
Similar here. I wasn’t sure what my lad (12) would make of the cricket, as he never watches it on TV with me, apart from the World Cup Final a few years ago, but I asked him if he fancied going to the test match at Headingley and he loved it. I then took him to two Hundred games, thinking that might be man easier introduction to the game, but I was pleased to find he hated that and wanted to punch the MC, who kept jabbering on in between overs. This year we have tickets for days 3-5 of the Ashes game (whether he goes to day 5, should it go all the way, it being a school day, depends upon the circumstances, but I’ve promised I wouldn’t go without him) and he wants to go to a few Yorkshire games. This makes me very happy, a son who sits with me on the Ponty and on the Western Terrace.
There’s nothing better than going to the footy with your kid is there. Although sitting between me and Molly, some of Molly’s catchphrases are starting to rub off on him. When Lucas shouted to Andersen to ‘snap him’ as he went in for a tackle, Molly sat back and said ‘my work is done’! Reminds me of when Aimee used to come with us. She tended to go and sit at the front with her mate for the second half. There was one game when their keeper went down like a sack of spuds and Aimee wandered up behind the goal and leaned forward and shouted something at him. The next day we all went to Oakwell for Sunday lunch and Aimee went and showed Julie where we sit. When they came back I asked Aimee what she shouted at their keeper when he went down. Julie was just taking a mouthful of drink and when Aimee replied “get up yer big puff” the drink went everywhere. Julie said “Aimee, you can’t shout that”, to which Aimee said “well daddy and Molly say it”. Then it was my turn to get told off!
Just seen this post. There are some great pictures of young Sophie. It was great to meet her after the game. Loved how enthusiastic Sophie was, and you could tell she had enjoyed the afternoon. She isn't a timid and shy type that's for sure. Good to catch up with you as well Paul - it had been a while
