I rejoined Labour to vote for Clive Lewis. I wasn’t given the chance so voted for Starmer as on balance he was the best of a crap bunch. He had been uniformly poor and his main selling point is he is slightly less shitty than the tories. You can’t abstain your way to power. He needs to lead and strongly or he will not get anywhere near winning. He also needs to realise that without Scotland he cannot win alone and support pre election consensus politics including making the argument for PR.

I will have a pop because he’s a bit ****. Marketing himself as a slightly more competent tory isn’t enough.

You are right if he sucks the Murdoch **** like Blair and does Ruperts bidding he might have a chance.

just chalk f*** on it then. What’s the point. I’m a socialist, a massive raging liberal lefty who supported JC to the hilt. But would I sit here and slag his relief off because he wasn’t somewhere he wasn’t needed. No. Because I’d rather see the good things he does or is trying to do.

There’s no point shouting from the outside and feeling worthy. It changes nothing, socialist principles and policies. With a leader who is electable.

BREAKING: Government insists Manchester’s £22 million support package is actually very generous, as that sort of money could run a failed test and trace system for over 14 minutes.

You may wish the Labour Party to be a mouthpiece for Rupert Murdoch. I don’t. Ikea lost me on the Psycops bill. He should be absolutely ashamed of himself. But Rupert would pat him on the head.

for myself If Labour offer a real alternative to the tories I’m in. If not I voted Green from 2002-19 and happy to do so again. I owe no party my vote. I certainly don’t owe it to Rupert Murdoch.

I guess that’s the one that his amendment was voted down before it passed. Whipped to abstain or whipped to vote against, it seemed the far left of the party were quite vocal about this and I certainly see their point. I’d be against it too. Fighting the majority we are however it’s not as simple as just shouting everything’s wrong.

it is as simple of having principles and standing up for them or you literally believe in nothing. By far left do you mean someone like say Clive Lewis?

Have to agree with you PR. I watched the newsnight piece. Monday night. And most of those in the know. On where Starmer stands ( including Len McClusky.) Say he’s A left wing socialist. And one who hopes to get the floating elder labour voters back onside. And back to their consciences and original values. Too early to judge the guy in present circumstances. Will wait and see what the manifesto he/they draw up in 3/4 yrs time. To give a reasoned opinion. As we all should In my view.

pardon? I told you where I stood earlier. What chance when the tories can just stand back and watch things like this.

Your tweet you found to back up your opinion is unavailable.

Agree with both you and Pompey. On most issues and I think you both agree in principle. Your ideologies. B
I also like most of the Greens manifesto from the last election. Would be great to see ( as the Brexit party agreed to stay out of certain Tory strongholds.) labour and the Greens to come to such an arrangement to defeat what we mostly want the tories. Maybe the greens concentrate on where they think they have the ability to win seats.
As I’ve always said. I hate the tories more than I love. shall we say a middle of the road labour.
Both parties are more akin to each other. Just wish the Scots came back to the labour fold. But if not. could make up a joint government. Rather than total independence.

The public purse can stretch as far as it wants. If the government of the day could borrow over 200 years to repay slave owners or 100 years to fund war costs, then it can choose to do the same over a pandemic. If we had to go to war tomorrow, the government wouldn't hesitate (well, our PM might "dither and delay" in making the decision), but we wouldn't just surrender because it might cost what is, on national spending levels, a fairly insignificant amount.

Remember Manchester wanted less money than was given to a non-existent ferry company (£83m), much less than a pest company that hasn't provided PPE that was fit for purpose (over £300m), and only slightly more than the Garden Bridge (£51m), which we can't admire when we visit London, much less than a satellite company that made the wrong kind of satellites (£500m) and a fraction of what was proposed for Operation Moonshot (£100bn) before it was quietly dropped by the person that suggested it. (and those are only a fraction of the cost of Brexit so far - over £200bn).

It still amazes me that the tories can spend such vast amounts for nothing in return, yet when we get to election time, people will tell us that Labour will bankrupt the country.

Abstention policy and absence of opposition is going well.
