Ok I agree . Steele is shiyt, Alnwick is far superior. Next , would you play Hassell again?

I wouln't. It is evident that the opposition know his weekness, and until he improves in that element of his game, I would play Ben Alnwick

Which is what a lot on here do anyway mate, they only see what they have been told to see and hear what they have been told is the truth, not what they see and hear for themselves. Go back and watch some videos of Muller, he flicks crosses when anyone is near him, when they are pumped in from distance he gets them easily, because he is not under pressure.
I dont think Steele has been as good lately, but he is 20 times the keeper Ben Alnwick is. But Phil says I am wrong so I have been told now.

I must be wrong then , I admit I know nothing about goalkeeping at all, other that actually playing there for 30 years . But I know that does not count when people can sit and watch and know more about the game without ever having played the game eh Phil!!

How many extra points would we have if we'd scored one more each game?

And how many more points would we have if we'd conceded one less goal each game?

I think you'll find our leaky defence to be the biggest issue.

    Re: Just wondering

Kev I started playing between the sticks when I was 10 years old, I played my last competitive match when I was 42, I also have played in 5 a side matches since , being as daft as i am, I have buggered up my knees and hips , but loved every minute.
They always said that you had to be mad to be a keeper, so I had a start there !! ;)

I think it was in my case, when I played at fullback, I injured too many of the opponents!!

I do actually think Ht ha a point (for once :) ) about us not conceding from a set piece until Steele came back and then suddenly we have conceded almost every game from them.

    Cant be a coincidence surly

    No wannabe, I was he.;)

I was talked to a old school mate from infants and junior school on Boxing Day, he was on about us playing football as kids and could I remember the first time we played for Longcar juniors , we were both 9 years old and he was the fastest kid I knew. Our main tactic was kick it as hard as we could in front of Dave and he would chase it and shoot. Worked a treat we won 5-0 and the bit he remembered best was not scoring 4 goals, but me kicking the opposing winger because he got past me in the last minute, to prevent him getting a shot in. Nearly 42 years ago and he remembers the sound of my boot on the little kids leg !!
Happy days, I used to love football, it was all we ever talked about, all we ever played and all we ever wanted to be when we left school. Now I am getting to the stage where I dont care about it very much at all. I never watch the Premiership matches, very rarely watch England matches and only watch Barnsley matches because that is what I have done for years, never go to away matches now, no excitement or joy going to Oakwell nowadays, the feeling of wanting to get there has long gone, just a habit now and one I feel i cant justify much longer. I packed up smoking and have felt a lot better for it, maybe if I stop going to watch BFC I will not get so down and depressed?

Question is do you want a keeper who is suspect on crosses and kicking but is an excellent shot stopper OR a keeper that can catch a cross and kick straight but is suspect at shot stopping?

    Same here

But I live in hope that our next match will become the turning point in our season. It rarely is, but I then carry that hope through to the next game. The only joy I get at a game now is seeing barnsley66, Jay, jedi one, bigdave8322, offspring and now nezbfc. At this moment I don't know whether I'll get a season ticket next Summer (I probably will, though). However, the club is losing, and has already lost, a great many folk who at one time would've regarded themselves as hardcore fans and I see nothing at the moment which will halt the situation. The attitude from the club, in my view, appears to be the blame rests with fans who are simply looking for excuses not to go. It's all a bit depressing.
