Treated myself to a Gibson SJ 200 when my endowment policy paid out, I also have a Fender strat and a Gretch solid body electric, not much of a player but I can play well enough to amuse myself. Favourite guitarist currently working is Nels Cline of Wilco but honorary mention to the late great Rory Gallagher.

Wish I could play guitar. My closest friend has played since he was 7, and he’s a real talent. In fact he’s currently touring America in an Elton John tribute band but playing Bass, which he now prefers after all these years!

As for my favourites I would have to obviously say John Frusciante is a personal favourite of mine, as is Lindsey Buckingham.

Let's not even get into guitar amplifiers, which guitarists can get just as nerdy about...

In fact, no, let's. I'm an Orange fan myself. Had a tonne of different amps but I can't look past Orange. Probably miles better boutique stuff out there, the likes of Magnatone and Matchless etc, but of the more popular brands, I think they're brilliant.

I’ve been learning to play guitar for above 4 years. It’s the hardest thing I’ve ever done. I hate all guitarists,,,,, clever b**tards

In terms of guitar players Eddie Hazel was probably the closest thing to Hendrix.

I play a bog standard Ibanez electric and a epiphone acoustic as well as a classical guitar who’s origins escape me, but it’s a good one!
Just an amateur strummer, I’m good enough to know I’m not very good! Favourite guitarist is Hendrix, best guitarist I ever saw is a toss up between Slash and Prince, both absolute geniuses.

I’m not but my brother in law plays lead guitar in a classic rock covers band. He has two Kramers. Eddie Van Helen is his guitar hero.

Ritchie is without doubt the best rock guitarist I’ve seen live but I guess everyone’s tastes are different . My top picks other than Ritchie would be Stevie Ray Vaughn, Steve Hunter ( Lou Reed/Alice Coopr) , Buck Dharma (Blue Oyster Cult) , Roger Steen (The Tubes) Joe Bonamassa , Jan Ackerman (Focus) Carlos Santana . Jimmy Page never really did it for me and I saw Zep twice in the 70’s . The three I never saw but revered Hendrix , Rory Gallagher and Paul Kossoff

Last year I sold a couple of guitars because they were stuck up the loft and never got played. One was an Epiphone Black Beauty Les Paul with 3 pickups (like the classic Robert Fripp guitar). I bought it for £108 in 2009 and sold it for £750 :), it was a fantastic guitar and it broke my heart to sell it but the money cheered me up a bit.

I also sold the bass guitar pictured below. There's a story behind it, a mate at work asked my advice what bass to get for his son so I advised a Fender Squier Precision for £200. Several years later his son went in the army and told his dad to take the bass to the tip.... Well the lad had defaced it and scratched BCFC all over it (Birmingham City fan). Well I bought it off him for £50 and filled the scratches and got the body repainted in the Jaguar paint repair shop (we worked at Castle Brom Jaguar plant). It was painted in Jaguar Racing Green and I got the trim shop to cover the scratch-plate in walnut veneer. It sold for £250.

I nearly bought the black beauty off you. Instead got a similar model with gold humbuckers for a lot less. Nice to play.

Also enjoy playing my Takimine acoustic.

Although recently I’ve enjoyed playing my oil can uke. Quite fun to play…
