Doesn't matter if the ball is played forward or back But if you're behind it when it's played (which is often the case when it's played back) then you're not offside, i.e. you can run from behind it onto a ball played forward or back to you even if the defenders are all having a cup of tea on the half-way line. On the other hand, even if it's played back then you're offside if you're in front of it when it's played. So possibly (1) and (2), although no ridicule justified. Unless I've got it wrong instead.
RE: Sorry but Well all I saw was that Hayes was clearly a yard or 2 in front of the last defender, some people around me were saying the ball had been cut back which was the part I couldn't say as I was looking at Hayes….so it could well have been that it was cut back and therefore shouldn't be offside. I tend to go with my first instict (after all the linesman only gets 1 look) and even before the linesman put his flag up (and he did it as soon as the ball got to Hayes) I thought it was offside, as did my mate, so I wasn't one of those booing the decision.
RE: not been on xbox live then? been too busy mate - and ive still not got a my new TV yet - soon as i do i'll be back on! TV less in my room at the mo. Will be worth the wait though im sure!
Bugger ... Just read the full rule on the FIFA website ... I'd always thought that you couldn't be offside on a backwards pass ... damn. Interestingly, you can't be offside if you receive the ball directly from a goal kick ... didn't know that either!
definately HECKY but how the ref gave a goal kick i dont know, if their player got the ball the least we should have got was a corner
