For me the Young Ones changed British Comedy...I Absolutely love Bottom, and Flashheart Well..WOOF! RIP!
Aye, very very sad. Saw Bottom live at the Grand in Leeds sometime in the 90s. Young ones one University Challenge is timeless.
The Young Ones was classic and really sets the tone for early to mid 80's. Anybody remember Filthy, Rich and Catflap? I thought that was very good too.
Very lucky that I was a teenager around the time of The Young Ones - we felt like it was made for us even though it was loved by all ages. Also loved his Lord Flasheart and of course Bottom and the New Statesman. Comedy genius!
Shaped my humour from The Young Ones to New Statesman via Blackadder. Big loss Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD
Went to see him in The New Statesman live. Absolutely brilliant. RIP Rik, Lord Flasheart, Bottom, etc
I was reading some of the lines from New Statesman last night and what I am sure was originaly satire seems to have been taken up as great policies by the tories and UKIP I particularly liked "We hear an awful lot of leftie whingeing about NHS waiting lists. Well the answer's simple. Shut down the health service. Result? No more waiting lists. You see, in the good old days, you were poor, you got ill and you died. And yet these days people seem to think they've got some sort of God-given right to be cured. And what is the result of this sloppy socialist thinking? More poor people. In contrast, my policies would eradicate poor people, thereby eliminating poverty. And they say that we Conservatives have no heart. "
"I feel sorry for you, you zeros, you nobodies. What's going to live on after you die? I'll tell you, nothing that's what...!" "This house will become a shrine and Punks and Skins and Rastas will gather round and hold their hands in sorrow over their fallen leader. And all the grown ups will say, 'but why are the kids crying'? And the kids will say, 'haven't you heard, Rick is dead the People's Poet is dead'. And one particularly sensitive and articulate teenager will say, 'other kids, do you understand nothing? How can Rick be dead when we still have his poems?'" RIP Rik Mayall
