The key point in all of this is that 500k doesn't get you much these days (Vaz/Hammill aside).

If we did sell Done the day before the season with 2 of our wingers already out injured people would be going mental - we've only got him, Etuhu & Polish available haven't we?

He's a decent player, 12 months experience and only going to get better and we shouldn't be selling players before they reach their true value. It might come back to bite us in the arse but I don't think it's right to sell him right now. I think it's positive that we're turning these bids down - obvious that we don't need the cash to balance the books.

He was one of our better performers last year. Nice to see us rejecting such bids. Bit late in the day for finding suitable replacements too.

months and months of people moaning that we always let players go for 'ten bob and a blackie's egg' - the board turn down a bid for a promising young player and they stilll get criticised. talk about a thankless task!

Rumour on Palace site says £300,000 offered beginning of week would it have risen so quick to £500,000 by print time last neet.

    They reckon they`re skint anall.

half a million quid isn't really ten bob and a blackies egg though is it? for a player who hardly tore the division apart last year and often looked like a lost sheep....

All these saying we should sell for 500k.

If we did, what the **** would we do with that cash. Who would we buy for 500k who is as good as done. If there is a fantastic winger available for that value why arn't palace in for him instead.

Some people on here just talk daft :)

Palace will finish below us this season.

    Love the fans me -

Any of you who are criticising us for rejecting this deal: Would you take £500k for O'Brien? Because in his first season with us he was much worse than Done was in his first season with us. 2nd season however things were much different.

£500k for O'Brien? Yes, definitely. I don't think he's worth that much. I think we could find better for the money, just like I think we could find better than Done for that sort of money.

Doesn't mean I'm up in arms that we haven't sold Done, I'm just a bit surprised.

The problem is not selling players. It's not getting the true value. Like when we lose Luke Steele for £300k because we haven't offered him a new contract.

On the other hand, when you get offered more than a player is worth, the common sense thing to do would be take the chuffin' money and run.

Ludicrous that we might end up turning down more for Done than we will get for Steele.

Maybe we could use the money to buy Hammill?

To say Matty Done is the best winger in the world available for half-a-million or less is bordering on mental in my opinion. Not saying we should definitely sell him, that's up to the manager, but what you've put there is crackers.

i believe rowing said on a radio sheff interview that because of the injuries to obrien and silva we had no cover in the wide positions and so it wasnt in our interests to sell at this time, think he also said in the future(when both fit probably) then who knows

first sensible thing you've said in weeks!! :)

its exactly this though, as we keep getting told we are here to nurture ,improve and then sell players, sell when you get offered more than the player is worth,

My point is if Hammill who is actually transfer listed is available for 500k why are palace bidding for done. I very much doubt done was their first choice.

Football clubs buy poor players all the time when there hundreds of good ones out there. Not saying Done is a poor player, but he's not the best either. Football managers make poor decisions all the time, that's why the majority of them get sacked.

Why did Barnsley pay £1.5 million for Hristov in 1997 when Ruud Van Nistlerooy was available for 360,000 Euros?

Even if they believe he'll turn into a million pound plus player?

He's gone from being released by Rochdale to half a million in less than 12 months. Who's to say he won't double that in the next 12? Let's just hope we sort him a contract out...

    Calculated risk in my opinion.
