Great stuff ! As others have said, let's hope it's the start of a flood of signatures from the promotion-winning team members.

Not sure Hammill is a good signing

after all he is a 28 year old who was only playing in League one last year

Sorry, got a touch of the sour grapes, must have picked it up on the Bristol City forum, apparently they weren't that bothered about him after all :D :D :D

A ‘delighted’ Adam Hammill addressed the media following the announcement of signing a two year contract to remain a Red!

Hammill said it was the special relationship with the Reds fans which made his decision to remain at the Club.

Chief Executive Ben Mansford was also in attendance at the press conference and wanted to express his delight at the news of Hammill’s commitment to the Club.

Mansford said, “I think this afternoon is a real mark of intent from Barnsley Football Club. In particular from the owner Patrick Cryne who has played an influential role in both supporting the Club and engaging with Adam, along with Paul Heckingbottom to ensure that we’ve managed today to secure Adam Hammill on a new deal that takes him through to the 30th June 2018.

“I am personally delighted to have him back, he was a huge part of the success we achieved last year.”

Hammill then addressed the media’s questions himself and stated his reasons for wanting to stay at Oakwell.

Hammill explained, “I had two weeks away with my family and there were quite a few offers on the table, but in the last 24 to 48 hours we sat down and decided that it was the best thing for my future. Sometimes you need to rule with your heart and this was certainly one of those moments.

“It was a special season last season and with the momentum we are carrying forward there is no reason why we can’t go on and establish ourselves as a Championship Club next season, with the players we’ve got and what we’re going to add. It’s a fantastic working environment, the staff and the players respect each other to a man, and they get the best out of each other.”

Hammill continued, “I think I’ve always played my best football in red. I’ve got an affinity with the fans and we shared such special moments last season that I thought it would be wrong to leave. To be honest, I can see myself kicking on again next season and performing just as well.

“I came in, in November and the Club helped me out just as much as I helped them, it was a perfect fit and it couldn’t have went any better if I’m honest. That’s why I’m delighted to announce I’m staying and I am part of this special Club.

“The longer I left it, the more conversations I had with Ben (Mansford) and Hecky (Paul Heckingbottom). Patrick (Cryne) was courteous enough to give me a call and explain the plans going forward, which was a major factor.

“Speaking to the staff and getting the clarification on what we’ll do next season and what direction we’ll move in, the biggest thing for me was keeping the core of the squad. Everyone is a pleasure to work with every day and keeping that team spirit and momentum moving forward, it will be an exciting season.

“It’s a Club I will always be fond of and be in my heart now. I followed my heart and signed today, I am delighted.”
