His lack of effectiveness was due to the fact he was playing in a side out of their depth. We signed 16 new players all pretty young with no championship experience and spend 3/4 of the season defending. Hammill is at his best 1 on 1 like we find ourselves time after time in league one but for the mostpart when he picked the ball up in the championship we were a lot deeper and folk expected him to take on 3-4 players. When he did get into good areas he spent half the season crossing to Bradshaw which was nothing of a target we then sign Moore and he spent most of the 2nd half of the season on the bench. He looked as fit as we’ve ever seen him last year and is rarely injured. It’s horrendous business to let him go on the basis ‘he had a bad season’ f*** me they all had a bad season but we retained the rest. I find it ridiculous we can’t have a few players outside the ‘criteria’ Hammills experience in this league would of been invaluable this season. Just a few notes from yesterday I went with my brothers father in law who hasn’t seen Barnsley play in over a year and he said nobody looks to take a man on everyone wants to pass constantly and 80% of the balls into the box didn’t beat the 1st man (this was for 70mins before moncur came on). hedges and cavare both got into good positions several times in the 1st half and were 1 on 1 and were reluctant to take the man on and opted to swing in deliveries which were very poor. We have a target man of 6 foot 6 in the middle if only we had a winger who could run at people with intent and put in a good ball oh wait..... We could only dream of a front 2 of Moore and Woodrow with Hammill on the wing. We’ll player Barnsley dropped a ******* here big time.
Why do we (people in my party) come away from the games like yesterday saying what we have missed is someone with AH’s intensity and motivational effect?
