my mate is a manager of some sorts at asos and he tells me they only get rid of the rubbish. He reckons that if people pull their weight they are set on full time, asos, like most companies cannot afford to have a high turnover of staff, they need regular workers who know the job.
He also tells me its a piece of pi55 after doing 20 odd years down the pit and that some of the young uns there don't know they are born.

Only passing on what he's told me.

Well I believe the minimum wage is £6.31 so thats 10p per hour above they pay for, I'm assuming the day shift and another £1.28 per hour for the night shift, not very good is it, far from decent and if you think £22k is not bad at all for a management job then I can't say anything else that would be polite.

I've worked in logistics for 35 years and warehousing has come a long way from the time when big companies had a "stores dept" where they sent their lame sick and idle to work and production and maintenance operatives had an hour away from the job to hav a chat at the counter whilst taking the **** out of the apprentice stood in the corner waiting for a long stand and a left handed screwdriver.

The current trend is to cut your own costs by outsourcing to specialist logistics companies who will streamline every little bit of the process to extract some profit out of the contract. One of the things they do is to make the picking process slick as possible by planning the pickers workflow, so that he goes from location A to B to C rather than leaving it up to him and him walking from A to Z to B. It will know how long it takes to walk between each location and how long it will take to pick each product. It's no different to the old time and motion processes, just a little bit smarter.

I'm not saying it's right or wrong, just explaining how it works

I can't disagree with any of that dek, especially about the finance sector, any body with an ounce of sense knew in the early 80's that an economy built on a service and financial sector rather than manufacturing would eventually crumble and sadly because it went on for so long and our dependancy on this economic model was so great that when it did finally crumble the results were catastrophic. NEW labour had a hand this by not trying to reverse this flawed economic plan, they had plenty of time to do something about it, they failed the real workers of this country.
