Yep.. when I lived in the West midlands, WBA, Wolves and Walsall.. Don't be a d'ick and you'll be fine..
I stood in the Scratching Shed at Stamford Bridge in 1982, and sat with the home fans at St Andrews for the playoff in 2000 - the 2 scariest football related days of my life....
Yep, quite a few actually between 2009 & 2014 was working away a lot so would go to midweek away games regular. Amongst others main one of note I went to was Elland Rd in 1991, went with 3 mates who are Leeds fans, main memories from that was Leeds fans throwing bottles of Urine into the Barnsley end, someone setting a car on fire outside during the game, my mates shitting them selves when we scored the winner and for some odd reason it’s always stuck in my mind that Vinnie Jones came out before the game and did a load of ball juggling tricks.
I did the same re the price. Got mi colours on. Coppers said you can't go in this end. I said I don't know a rule that can stop me and I would save several quid. For me and mi lad. ( no away concession prices if I remember correctly.) After 10 minutes of arguing the toss they let us in and provided a steward to take us round to the away end. I was successful with that tactic on several occasions. Lol. I've sat among Wendy's. Leicester fans forest fans. For varying reasons. But the most **** scared I've ever been was sat with my elder relatives at Bradford city among home fans. When it was bedlam at the back of the goal just to the left of us. Violence throughout all the game. Several cops carried out on stretcher.
Leeds a few times late 80s. They sussed me the game we came back from 2-0 down with a stunning John Sheridan own goal. Not sure if it was the same game David Johnson scored late on for us. Cup of hot Bovril over my back. Bradford City 2002 ish, they pumped us 4-0 first game of season. Chastising. Huddersfield late 70s.
A few times. Ironically once was against today’s opponents in the season we went up to the premier league. I’d worked a few shifts in the McAlpine stadium on a non contract basis. We’d sold our allocation by the time I’d decided I could make it so I told my mate we could sit in the main stand, no problem. We sat near the away end, but not too close. Of course, around five minutes in it all kicked off as there were a number of reds fans right in the bottom corner ,and Huddersfield’s heavies were piling past us in our seats to get involved. Me and my mate decided to move back a few rows and keep out of the way. Once order was restored, the heavies returned only to find we’d occupied their seats. We politely offered to move which they graciously declined, just happening to mention that they’d been down ‘to sort them t@#ts down there out’. It was at that point I decided to go to the toilets to remove my Toby Tyke pin badge which I’d been wearing on my jeans change pocket. Quite relieved the match finished goalless as I couldn’t have hidden my reaction to a goal at the time with everything that was riding on the results at the time.
A few times Birmingham (free tickets when I played for their ladies team). Lost 3-0 and got mercilessly ribbed all night. Portsmouth - lost 4-2 the Bradbury hattrick. My sister worked for them at the time so after the game I had to listen to their staff banging on about how they were always going to beat us because we messed them about with the postponement. Just over a week later we were promoted to the Premier League. Sheff Utd Awful. Sat in the main stand. Think we lost 2-1 or 3-1. Bogdanovic missed a pen for us i think. Just horrible sitting with their fans. Forest - tickets in a Box in the Trent End. Lost again.
Oxford away, Bradford fire day. Sat with Oxford team families behind directors box. Sat 4 rows behind Robert Maxwell and his daughter who was MD at the time. Can't think of her name.
Me too. Same stand, same game. Got rumbled by the Wednesday fans near us. They were quite gracious tbf. My dad told me to control myself but I couldn’t. Ronnie Glavin, what a player.
I’ve done it a few times. Lived in Sheffield for years so I’ve sat in the home end at Bramall Lane and Hillsborough a fair few times when we’ve played there. Never had any bother but I’ve been sat with a load of United/Wednesday mates each time and I’ve managed to avoid cheering. Stood on the terrace in the home end at Hartlepool years ago on Boxing Day as well. Their away end only held about 200 so it was impossible to get a ticket. We won 2-1, two goals from Kevin Betsy if I’m remembering right. Again, managed to avoid cheering, although my step brother kept ringing me all afternoon in the hope that my non-Teeside accent on the phone would give me away.
Strangely enough i got beat up in their end at that game. Aged 11, my much older cousin took me in the Cowshed at Huddersfield in 1976. That didn't end well. Sat in Cantilever when Di Canio scored in injury time to win the game. That was wrenching! Stretford End , front row, when we lost 7-0 in the Premier. Millwall in 2001ish... partner at the time was a season ticket holder at The Den. We're one nil up, and have hit the bar twice, when it's half time. The grief i got whilst in the seats was nothing compared to the half time drink below the stand. Worst offenders were two blokes who actually worked for me at the time... come full time, and a Millwall win, they were nice as pie... "cam an ave a drink wiv us geez" and do on! Several others too...League Cup tie at Tranmere was brill. Had a great crack lol.
Last home end I was in watching Barnsley was when we got battered by Newcastle 6-1. My mates company had season tickets for Newcastle, behind the goals, which we utilised. We left with 10 minutes remaining - missing Bogdanovic's consilation - and I sulked all the way home to Glasgow.
Huddersfield away in playoffs. Won 3-1 - 3-2 overall. Went crazy when Nardiello scored a late winner! we were next to gangway and stewards ushered us quickly to bottom of stand to the awaiting Police. My mate took a beauty on way down! Police frogmarched us at the bottom of stand to away and shoved us in. Not before a quick crack with Baton! Got a hero’s welcome in away end though! Great times.
