I don't think Kay was given the boot purely on his footballing ability. Point to be made and all that.
Could be, but it's petty if that's the case. Still, a two year contract for Reid? Wouldn't get into any other side in this division, so we're either desperate or dumb.
Seeing as we're filling the squad with full backs I suppose it's a decent idea to have at least one chap who's played at centre back around.</p>
Ah, but... What if you bought your top from Armani and when you got it home it didn't fit properly and you've lost your receipt. Or, maybe the first time you wore it round town, it got torn and would be out of action for sixteen months with a cruciate ligament injury? What then? Then you'd regret not buying six "I'm with stupid" shirts, wouldn't you?
3 tops from Next. Steady away, do a decent job and a back up for when you get bhuna sauce on one and it doesn't wash out.
You know less than nothing: Here's the line up for the last game that meant anything last season: Colgan - not a Davey signing Austin - not a Davey signing Reid - not a Davey signing Kay - not a Davey signing Heckingbottom - not a Davey signing Devaney - not a Davey signing Togwell - not a Davey signing Howard - not a Davey signing Kyel Reid - a Davey signing, but was utter ***** on a stick sideways in a soup Nardiello - not a Davey signing Ferenczi - a Davey signing whose first 6 games played a massive part in us staying up, but looked garbage by the end of the season Subs: Rajczi - a Davey signing, but looked rubbish Lucas - a Davey signing, but looked rubbish Jones - a Davey signing, but looked invisible McCann - not sure who signed him, but looked pointless Atkinson - not a Davey signing As far as I can see - Davey had one true success, which was Ferenczi ... and a short successful stint from Nyatanga. It's pretty obvious that Ritchie was intentionally trying to take us down ... with a group of players who kept us up. If Jesus existed - he'd be weeping like a 9 year old girl who has just been told her puppy is dead, her pony has been sold & her school photo is being taken in Penistone.
£600,000 spent people still moaning. 7 new players, people still moaning. losses cut from £3.65million to profit in 3 years. people still moaning. dont stop at Ritchie, lets get Ridsdale back. 2 centre backs, a keeper and a striker next week, and everyone happy? I doubt it.
Alternatively, order lots of stuff online, buy brands you've never heard of, and hope that one day at least one of the brands goes on to become popular.
It seems ... ... we got the "Mattis polo shirt" from a charity shop. The best shirt we had was borrowed from a nice shop in Derby, but it was a wedding outfit & only for hire. I think the cheap eastern european top we purchased will fall apart on us this year, but it served it's purpose when it was new. I've no idea what I'm on about.
if we get those 4 in next week mate i would be more than happy. think its the lack of central defence that is making everyone twitchy due to us having a shocking defence for the last few seasons. im sure the board have it under control however.
You're right Gaz. I'd be stupid to take that kind of risk. There are literally no examples in history whatsoever where risk has brought rewards. Certainly not in business......erm I mean shopping for tops.
Speaking of ferenczi, is there a link between him not speaking english and being an effective striker when we first signed him and then picking up the language and becoming ineffective?
I've already answered your question about the new signings. My question is simple: You ask your purchasing manager to buy 10 items. He comes back with 8 piles of ****, 1 decent purchase & a borrowed gem. Would you trust him? Gord has decided he will. As I said - I'm pretty happy with the quality of some of the signings - I'm hoping Kayo, Johnson & Kozluk will be Championship standard. All I'm saying is that I hope his hit rate is better than last season ... as he's letting Ritchie's boys leave & is replacing them with his own - so this season is realistically the one he'll be judged on, in my opinion. Have that - teaboy.
Ferenczi didnt speak english = played well Ferenczi learnt english = was ineffective. I wonder if he didnt fully understand the managers team talks at first and just did what he knew best?
Yes. He was taught the entire English language during the course of his first 6 games. I think Davey did a great job ... with Ritchies players. That's all. It's not complicated. Yours in sport, Stevey T.
Everyone of the signings are players Davey has watched. thats watched in the flesh, not on a dvd. gives me more confidence. the players we brought in immediately after Ritchie's departure were ones available at the time, very little opportunity for planning with so little time left. Davey gave everyone of the players he inherited advice on what they needed to work on and the opportunity to do so. some took the advice, some didnt, and those are the ones he's moved on. you're absolutely right, we can judge Davey this season as its his (and his backroom staffs) team and tactics. one things for sure, if it dont work out, it wont be for the lack of trying. If we go down to a heavy defeat, I'll feel better leaving the ground knowing that the players'll be in for a training ground beasting as opposed to a matey arm around the shoulders and a bacon butty.
My take on things: Kayo - will cause people problems ... a very decent signing. Kozluk - better than what we had - obviously comfy in this league. Johnson - good quality, questions over fitness. Others - no idea ... but Davey deserves his chance to form a squad & I hope he's very successful. 2 centre halves. 1 goalkeeper. 1 striker. As Gaz said - the 2 year deal for Paul Reid, who I agree wouldn't get into another team in this league, worries me. Are you also saying that Davey had never seen Kyel Reid, Nyatanga, Jones, Mattis, Eckersley & Lucas play? I'll accept that the Hungarian boys might've been DVD specials (as the £59 flights to Budapest may have been above our budget last season) ... but surely he saw the others? You're the greatest switch hitter in history.
Guess work but Im assuming the 2 United lads were on recommendation of Sir Alex, didnt see the best of either. Mattis with the Bury connection, clearly written off after 3 games. Lucas was a round peg for a round hole, Lewin and Kyel I think more likely to be Davey leads. I dont see Davey doing the after dinner circuit saying we'll definately go down either.
